Coffee Shop & Bakery

Featured Replies

Hi, anyone who is in Bangkok and wanting to find a nice out of the way Coffee Shop & Bakery in the Sukhumvit area, you may like to try this place;

Le Blanc Boulangerie

15 of Sukhumvit Road., Soi 39

North Klongton

Wattana District

Bangkok 10110

The owners are Japanese and they preparer and cook all of their bread and sweets on site. They also run a Coffee Shop from the premises and do sandwiches and other assorted food.

They are apparently very well known around the Japanese community and have had articles written about them and have also had their premises used on many occasions to film and interview high profile Japanese and Thai actors and actresses in their shop.

They are situated about a five minute walk from Phrom Phong BTS Station.

A Japanese start a (French) Boulangerie, no thank you.

You are obviously completely unaware that they do a very good job of it, they are not Thai, never confuse them with Thais. Some of my favorite baked goods are from Japanese bakerys.

Do not dismiss the Japanese so quickly with the art of making bread. There is a shop near my place here in Tokyo which does a very tasty list of breads and sandwiches. The couple apparently studied in France.

Where in the OP did he mention the proprietors were Thai? Before getting all nationalistic, read the post again.

Bkk James, you somehow completely misread what I posted. I said they are NOT Thai, meaning they should not be confused with a cheap Thai copy, the Japanese do things right and proper and bakeries are extremely popular in Japan and have become a major part of their culture. Why bring up Thai? Because this is Thailand and he seemed to equate anything "Asian" as a bad copy of the real thing and this just isnt true.

Ok mate. So in other words a local Japanese Restaurant with a Thai Chef trained in Japan is not authentic? :)

Thai chefs trained in Japan? That would be rare dont you agree? More common is a Thai chef trained by a Japanese chef here in Thailand, and they do an alright job. Things are getting better, pizza is still pretty horrible but compared to the bread with ketchup smeared on it labelled as pizza when I first got here things have really improved.

Well back on topic, I prefer French style bakery products (bread) over the soft Japanese kinds so I find the name a bit odd unless they do traditional French Baguettes and the lot.

Thanks for everyone who has posted a reply, very interesting. My original post was to inform you all of an alternative, yes there are many Coffee Shops and Bakeries in and around Bangkok, some good, some bad and some just middle of the road.

I guess you can never really judge a business or recommendation until you actually try out the place yourself.

I have like many of you had very bad Coffee and service from many businesses in and around Bangkok, but would not paint everyone with the same paint brush, but on the other hand I come across a little gem now and then and like to share it with others, let's not judge a place, just because the people who run it or work in it are not what you would think the norm. :)
