Temporarily Leaving Thailand While Holding A Tourist Visa

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Sorry I am a bit unclear - if I have a 60 day single entry (or 120, double entry) tourist visa, and I need to travel briefly to a neighboring country (I have some business in Singapore that needs tending to very occasionally), what happens when I need to re-enter Thailand (assuming this happens within the 60 or 120 day interval of validity for the visa). Do I need to apply for a new visa? Would this raise suspicions? Or is there a way to get a waiver or something (I would be out of Thailand for 2-3 days only) that would allow me to re-enter under the existing visa terms?

Basically I'm planning on being in Thailand for 60-120 days, but I might need to travel outside Thailand a few times for a 2-3 days at a time, and I am trying to find the best way to do so. And, I am not sure I can make this trip(s) coincide with the exit for the 2nd leg of the 2 entry tourist visa.

Thank you.

First ---

You can extend EACH entry of the TV's for 30 days while you are in the country for 1900 baht. (so in theory you can get almost 180 days from a double entry)

Second ---

I don't know of many people that do it but I see no reason that you cannot purchase a re-entry permit (single or multiple) for a Tourist Visa. again 1900 baht for a single re-entry permit.

I believe that Tourist Visas are currently free in neighboring countries.

Great! Thanks for the quick answer.

By the way - is there an issue if I apply (outside of Thailand, in one of the neigboring countries) for a Tourist Visa after having been in Thailand with a visa exemption (US passport, 30 days, entered by air). I am in Thailand now, but plan on travleling to Laos/KL/Singapore to get the Tourist Visa for 60-120 days as described above.

Cheers,

Cheers,

no issue in this case. just go apply for a visa

A re-entry permit will only preserve your current permission to stay, whether that is your 60 day entry or your 30 day extension from immigration. It does not add any more days. Obtain from local immigration office. Fee is 1,000 baht for single entry (3,800 for multiple entry). Most consulates within the region will only issue single entry tourist visa. If you require a double entry tourist visa you should apply at Vientiane (Laos). They are currently free.

"...again 1900 baht for a single re-entry permit."

I think it's 1000 baht for a single re-entry permit and 3800฿ for a multiple.

The multiple gives you an unlimited (sort of) number of re-entries within the duration of your current permission to stay.

Sorry about the misinformation regarding the re-entry permit. I have always been on mult-non-imm's :)
