Mobile Visa Units To Assist Foreigners

Mobile visa units to assist foreign workers

BANGKOK: -- The spectacle of foreign workers travelling vast distances across the country to renew their visas could soon be a thing of the past, thanks to a deal signed today between the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) and the Immigration Police Bureau which will see the establishment of mobile visa units.

IEAT Governor Uthai Juntima said that the units were designed to facilitate foreign workers and their employers, as well as to ensure that foreign workers receive their rights under the Thai labour protection laws.

Under the deal, employers will be able to take their skilled foreign workers, along with their spouses and children, to one of 10 visa units in local industrial estates, including Laem Chabang and Mabtaphut in the country's eastern region.

The first industrial estate to offer the service will be Amata Nakorn in the eastern Chonburi Province.

If you search back a year or so on either this forum or the Thai Visa forum, you will see the same thing being discussed.

In the past year nothing has happened - why should things change now?

Sounds like a good idea, let's see how things progress.

Great in theory, but I suspect in 12 months time I'll be replying to a similar post saying "great in theory...."

Will the users be greeted with a now 'mobile' squad of obstructive, arrogant and pompus officers?

Or will the few helpful, courteous and polite Immigration Officers be put on the road leaving the 'nasty brigade' to staff the battlements at Suan Plu?

Sounds like a good idea, let's see how things progress.
i agree
