Which Tree/bush Grows High Fast?

Featured Replies

I need to plant something that will grow tall fast. I need to be able to grow something up to 12-15 metres high as my peaceful neighborhood is now being invaded by "townhouses", a fancy name for shophouses with pools. Bamboo grows relatively fast and can get thick, but the downside there is all the fallen leaves that will need to be picked up on a daily basis. Anything else that will accomplish the goal?

Coral vine perhaps? It grows fast, but will need some structure (bamboo?) to grow on though.

There is another white-flower tree that come to my mind. I don't know the name. I might post a picture of it later.

I have 2 mulberry trees that grow/grew very fast, in large containers, never seen anything like it, can't wait for the fruit now. :)

Ashoka trees. we planted 120 trees 3½ years ago, height 1.50-1.80 meters they are now between 5 and 6 meters high although we clipped the tops several times to strengthen the trunks.

edited for addendum: being impatient we planted the trees too close. with proper spacing they would be now much higher and denser.

^ personaly don't have much feeling for them, but they do the job !

Now, if you need to get to 12-15m high, the fastest would be bamboo. If you have enough volume, and planting space for the roots, consider trees. Very narrow space, then go for structure + climbing plants. Lots of money, go for vertical wall and PM me :)

And no matter what you plant, you will have to deal with the leaves (but bamboos certainly are proficient...), and a bit of maintenance once in a while, which is not unpleasant.

Thanks for the help. Before I do something hasty I'll see what the next door developer wants to do, and take it from there.

Once you plant bamboo, it's forever.

Other problem with bamboo is the leaves have tiny little itchy "hairs" that make pruning and cleaning unpleasant.

Asoke trees are indeed are a very good and very tall hedging material.
