curious2005
Well...Pattaya is the world's hub for self appointed specialists and experts in any possible field. Phil Conners
I don't know if you refer to me as the OP. Actually I reposted someone else's observations, but since you ask, yes I am still worried about the dodgy retrofitting that was done there, and though it hasn't crashed yet that is no guarantee that it won't happen one day. Of course I hope not, but knowing Thailand and the attitude to security here I am still not convinced.

curious2005
You forgot the Moderators in your post courious, now they will have a sleepless night. Be careful they will watch you every word in future ....At least some have not lost their humor in Sin City! Great! So we better extend it to any and all Pattaya expats and any (possibly) self-appointed experts! No offense meant or taken! And a quiet sleep to all! TheWalkingMan
Fallen down or not fallen down, at least one of the bridges wobbles. I felt it myself when leaning against the railing near MK on one of the upper floors. As long as I have lived, I have never felt a wobbling bridge in a shopping mall. If it never falls, great! If it does fall... well, there will be plenty of "I told you so" spoken. TheWalkingMan
morrobay
The totol load on that structure is not even complete yet. That hotel being ( it seems very slowly) constructed is adding a massive load. see wikipedia: Sampoong department store collapse Edited February 24, 2010 by morrobay
farangpattaya
Well...Pattaya is the world's hub for self appointed specialists and experts in any possible field. From construction and engineering to city planning or how to run a bar or restaurant or even the entire country.....A huge truckload of clowns.... Well, obviously there wasn't an expert on motorbike parkings..........what a crap!! Just a very quick visit of 5 minutes into the shoppingarea took me 30 minutes to park the bike, find it back and the attempt to leave the parking. It seems that a car-wash in the basement is more important.

It seems that a car-wash in the basement is more important. Another prediction was that Central wouldn't have customers! The motorbike parking situation is criminal. On a recent visit I found ONE parking spot in the entire area and I took it. Park in one of lanes and you can't get out because bikes block the lanes when the parking places are full. Now the limited street parking outside is always full too. I rarely go there now because I don't want to fight w/ the parking. Today's rant! BSJ
Spalpeen, you beat me to it! I chipped in with a few comments myself back then! There is no denying the fact that drilling holes in structual members weakens the said members. Putting extra reinforcement in after the building has been completed is not the same as having reo cast in place with the initial pour. The structure is weaker and thats a fact. Now that another building is being constructed on top of the existing building, were do you think all the stress and vibrations will be going? Only one way, down through the existing structure. I did not comment back then, but It was designed to have two hotels initially. They then decided to build only one. So it should be okay, but TIT so we'll see, how it turns out.
