I am considering ordaining as a monk. (with the permission of my wife).

Since marriage twelve years ago i have been on Non 'O' for reasons of marriage and supporting my family.

Would i be able to change the Non 'O' to whatever is required for a monk here?

2.13 In the case of study of Buddhism or religious function:

Permission will be granted for a period of not more than 1 year at a time.

(1)

The alien has obtained a temporary visa (NON-IM);

(2)

Confirmation has been issued by the National Buddhism Office or the National Buddhism Office of the Prime Minister’s Office or the Mahachulalongkorn University; and

(3)

Confirmation has been issued by the abbot of the temple where the applicant is studying or performing the religious function.

Wouldn't those regs usually be for someone who needed a visa, but didn't have other options?

On the other hand, an extension for marriage implies the couple is living together.

Perhaps a Non O would work as long as a new extension wouldn't be needed prior to being de-monked?

As it is now, many of us qualify for several types of visa extension; marriage or retirement, or even for work. We are now pretty much able to choose the option we want. Wouldn't it be the same in the OP's situation?

Op will be fine changing his reason for an extension of stay, if he meets the requirements quoted by Lite Beer.

People in the Buddhism forum might have more practical tips.

Good point Terry.

My thinking would be that to have an extension based on Marriage you need to be living with your Wife as a family.

I do not think a Monk would be doing that.

Are Monks even allowed to have a Wife? :)

I do not think so. :D
