Are Chevrolet Vehicles Really More Expensive To Service And Maintain?

Featured Replies

A comment I hear a lot from friends and neighbours, and hear on TV shows, is that Chevrolet vehicles are more expensive to maintain and repair. I do ask why, especially as people who say this freely admit to having never owned a Chevrolet. Can anyone on this forum kindly explain why, please?

I'd appreciate if someone knowledgeable and experienced in these matters could give an example and compare like for like ie a Chevy Captiva/Toyota Fortuner, or Colorado/DMax, such as 'a new Captiva timing belt costs xbaht and a Fortuner's costs xbaht' etc.

Cheers

My Thai wife just told me yesterday that a Chevy pickup is no good. The next statement was that Isuzu was number one and the best. I then asked her if a Mazda or Ford was better. She immediately told me that Mazda was good and Ford was no good. I wouldn't pay a lot of attention as to what the Thais tell you about vehicles.

I might add that she would not believe that Chevy and Isuzu come out of the same factory and likewise Mazda and Ford.

Pickup NO is one of the cheapest as it is a Isuzu [even with genuine parts] but re the cars YES as mostly all parts are genuine , where as Toyota have many copy parts so can be much cheaper

Captiva and Chevy cars are all Korean Daewoo, rebadged Chevy in LOS. Could make the parts more expensive if they are imported. Toyota sells in very high volume and most models are thai made from thai made parts

Chevy parts in the US are cheaper than most others and good non-factory replacement parts are also available from after market auto parts stores. It's the labor that will get you in the US but hopefully you don't have that problem in Thailand.

This actually might be a good reason to buy a Chevy. Lack of 'copy parts' might be a good thing.
