Has anyone taken as Airasia flight to Melborne and can describe what the conditions are like? Was it bearable or unacceptable?

I've flown AA on short haul flights but never over long haulso I'm a bit wary of committing to buying a ticket at this point.

Have flown AA quite a few times to Melbourne from KL. Planes very clean and more leg room than domestic and comparable with other airlines. Baggage 15kgs. Entertainment is via a portable device that you have to pay for but not expensive. Food isn't anything to rave about and same as domestic, you pay for it. I've flown Jetstar, Singapore,Emirates and Qantas and the seating and the flights are very similar. The only difference being that it is a budget airline you pay for extras, but you get a budget airfare as well which suited me.

If you are travelling long haul. get one of the the "hot seats" . They have more legroom, cost a few baht more but worth it

well worth a try if you are travelling solo, but in my experience if you are travelling as a twosome (or moresome) then you will need to book months out to get these seats (side by side that is).

we have travelled chiangmai-KL-Gold Coast and thought it was good value. we did however get stuck with a full day in the airport at KL (they changed the time of the onward leg to Oz a few days before the flight).

the crazy thing there is that there is a comfy day lounge with full facilities (at cost) in KL airport, but it's only accessible after you pass though security with your boarding pass ... and you can't do that more than 2 or 3 (?) hours before your air asia flight leaves. No wonder the place was deserted! If we could have got in there when we arrived in the morn we would have happily paid the money to hang out there for the day - esp. with a young child in tow. Go figure

PS: Oh and this small point was not mentioned in either the airport's web site nor the web site of the company that runs the lounge

AirAsiaX... be careful.

Most recently, my wife and I were stranded in Abu Dhabi when AirAsiaX announced they were canceling service to/from Abu Dhabi in January this year. They didn't notify us (their stranded passengers) until Feb 10th. Neither did they offer any accommodation nor answer our emails asking for help. We had to get back to Malaysia on our own. They won't reimburse our additional expenses either.

They said they would refund the Abu Dhabi/Kuala Lumpur portion of our trip, but it will take them 30-50 days to process the refund. Such an attitude!

Watch out for these guys. If you are considering using AirAsiaX, It might be a good idea to develop a plan B... just in case.
