argh im coming to BKK this saturday til tuesday. what should i do..cant cancel the flight.

The taxi drivers would love to see you! I went to BKK the day Thaksins verdict was announced, the taxi driver told me he had been waiting for almost three hours for a fare. It depends on where you are trying to go in BKK I guess as to what you'll run into...

Like most of us, I can't see qasf69 making his decision based on whether he keeps the taxi drivers happy or not......who gives a dam_n about them ? :)

Former colleague is having a wedding ceremony tomorrow. This might seem shocking to believe given all the media reports showing the "support" the reds have received in Bangkok, but I don't think there's a single red shirt supporter/sympathiser amongst them.

It's unlikely a rent-a-mob buggering up a wedding celebration will do much to change that either.

"Whether mass transport, like underground trains and the BTS service should also be disrupted, is being discussed among DAAD leaders.

"If our campaign can be heightened to that level, the government must do something to respond," the source added."

It's like a six year old who hasn't got his way and reacts by tearing up his room, thinking "this will get my parents to respond".

"The disruption is needed because middleclass people like Bangkok residents are naturally reluctant to express themselves, unless their lives are affected," the source explained.

The man's reasoning is seriously under the influence of alcohol, or drugs.

Bangkokians middle class has been annoyed to the point of limit. Now if their lives are actually affected......I doubt the reaction from the public will be positive for reds.

The red shirts' thuggish style will back fire on them.

No that I do not remember the yellow's thuggish style years ago (such as the seize of airport, government office, etc.), but it seems reds losing ground fast. It is not their city.

Another point of view. Imagine if this group of people is all from the province of Konkaen, and we Bangkokians go there and disrupt their lives, what would they feel.

Deliberately affecting others' lives in anyways will not achieve the goals intended.

Chaos planned for Bangkok tomorrow

gallery_327_1086_39104.jpg

Interior Minister Chaovarat Chanweerakul

BANGKOK: -- Key United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) leader Jatuporn Prompan has told the media at the red-shirt rally site at Phan Fa Bridge that a special joint police and military operation has been planned for tomorrow, Saturday, in an attempt to discredit the red-shirt movement.

According to Mr. Jatuporn a team of 100 police and military personnel have been formed to infiltrate the red-shirt protesters and create an incident at the Stock Exchange of Thailand during the groups planned motorcade through Bangkok.

Mr. Jatuporn said the operation was being mounted by the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) and information of the proposed operation had been provided by a member of the police force who had been assigned to participate.

He also said the UDD had been informed that the Ministry of the Interior (MoI) were planing to mobilize its “blue-shirts” to infiltrate the protesters and create other incidents throughout the city.

‘We will have 3,000 red-shirt guards accompanying us as we move around Bangkok and if anyone tries to create a disruptive situation we will subdue them, detain them, and hand them over the authorities he said.

Mr. Jatuporn also said that if there was an evidence to prove the MoI was involved in attempting to create a civil disturbance the red-shirts will move to the office of Sino Thai Engineering and Construction on Sukhumvit Soi 21.

Sino Thai is largely owned by family members of former acting Thai Prime Minister Chaovarat Chanweerakul, Thailand’s current Minister of the Interior.

According to Mr. Jatuporn, resident around Bangkok’s Grand Palace have also informed the UDD that the have been approached by military personnel and asked to create a conflict with red-shirt protesters to “prove their loyalty to and love for the King”.

Mr. Jatuporn said the latest information should be a cause for concern by all peace-loving Thais and only demonstrated the desperate situation the government of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva saw itself in.

“This government is desperate. It is fearful of the red-shirts as it see’s we are not going to go away and that every day more and more people are joining us in our fight for democracy.

“This morning Abhisit said he was willing to negotiate with us. Well we are willing to negotiate with, him but only after he has announced his intentions to dissolve parliament and return the power to the people.

Until then we will keep on rallying and protesting. We will stay here for one year if we have to”, Mr Jatuporn said.

Earlier in the morning another core UDD leader, Weng Tochirakarn, said the UDD will put 20,000 cars onto the streets of Bangkok on Saturday in a convoy stretching 80km long to, “protest against the aristocratic elite” in Bangkok and the government.

Mr. Weng invited residents of Bangkok and nearby provinces to join the mass rally to send a decisive message to the government.

“The red-shirts have won the hearts of people worldwide as the anti-government rally over the past week has been peaceful as we said it would be”, he said.

Shortly after Mr Jatuporn addressed the media another key UDD leader, Veera Musikhapong, showed foreign media representatives a text message purporting to be from deposed former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

The message said, “I am now back in Dubai. As you can see information about my being banned from returning is a lie. Thank you to everyone helping spread our message for democracy over the internet and through other media channels”.

A check of the sending telephone number showed the message appeared to have originated in Dubai.

This is the time to put the water cannons in action: flush all those Red Shirters away, first their stupid "leaders." If you don't resort to this democratic means, Khun Abhisit, you will lose out to them sooner or later.

You might want to go out and greet the people who feed you every day.

Like them or hate them, they are the backbone of the nation.

i hate to break it to you but the working class is made up of people form all across thailand , burma, cambodia ect, not just the north. And i can cook for myself... Maybe they should say thanks to those that are their customers,

Wow, you can cook!  Can you grow your own food as well?  And yes the working class is made up of people from all over, however, Bangkokians are largely made up of people who make their living off the backs of others.  That's not a dig at employers, it's the way it is.

What a bizarre but telling statement. The Red stance and wording is beginning to sound more and more like something out of a 1960-'s China or Khmer Rouge handbook. Setting up the "class war", will the evil middle class "making their living off the backs of others" be assigned to camps to be re-educated?

Great the Thai economy hasn't lost enough money in this latest round of the "hilbillies visiting town". Next time the relatives ask for money I tell them to call on Thaksin as mybusiness has lost over a 100.000 baht already and I cannot afford to sponsor supporters of the person whom is negatively affecting my income.

Maybe time to vent my anger on the nearest redshirt I encounter.

Come on wanke_r lets go, I got a red shirt so lets see what you got oh by the way its also got a Maple Leaf on it

There's a rather endless diatribe about how bad this is for the economy. But for God's sake, this is a city, it's not the entire country. There is a lot of territory outside of Bangkok that is also part of Thailand.

The government is busy protecting its self and its buildings and property. They seem to have a lot less concern for the residents than one might expect.

Well Old Credo's favoured leader is best buddies with Hun Sen, and from what I understand ole Hun could tell him a few things about that. :)

Is it really necessary to insult people. Surely you must be capable to express you unhappiness in a civil tongue.

Please try it. People will respond in a like manner.

I didn't find the original poster's tone insulting at all but your condescending one certainly is, Miss Manners. :) How about some sympathy for someone whose business has been hurt by this fiasco?

I concur with the last post also....what insult??? Give me a break!...Don't get Me Started......LOL

the word hillbillie can certainly be insulting and used by this poster because he hates the red shirts is more insulting and besides thst, didn't he and the whole country suffer when the Yellow Shirts closed the airport for 2 weeks. Why does everyone keep forgetting about that.

I don't think they are forgetting about. A lot of people on this site back the yellow-shirts, so that was OK. Generally, they don't like the red-shirts, so any disruption is viewed quite differently.

Now if they disrupt these services, the Reds might not have to worry about the Army/Police doing violence to them... they would have to worry about the Bangkok Residents doing violence to them!

NOW THERE YOU HAVE A POINT. I would be tempted to pretend it is Songkran if they came around my place but I am just a farang dont need their hastles but let them give the people of Bangkok problems any you may be all to right. Stay inside enjoy the wife or ???. :D:)

Supporting the people who are demonstrating is one thing.  Supporting their leader is another.  You will be looking for a while to find a post of mine supporting Thaksin.  I see little, if any redeeming qualities in the man.  I see a lot of redeeming qualities in the people protesting in Bangkok.

I don't think any one on this forum has any objection to the poor being given the opportunity to work themselves out of poverty and to have a brighter more secure future. And as Abhist has offered mediated talks; which would be an ideal forum in which to bring up their hopes and concerns, and have some concerete promises laid down, as to how a brighter more equitable future can be achieved - A meeting with the PM seems the perfect opportunity. So why dismiss it?

It seems that the 'poverty' card gets played with the provision, that only a 'red' alligned political party is allowed to solve this problem and that makes me seriously wonder if certain political parties really want to solve the so called underlying problem. Or if they prefer to use poverty as an excuse to further exploit the down trodden.

The whole democracy thing is just smoke and mirrors. Democracy takes may forms in many different countries. And in 18 mopnths new elections will be held. If the Dems manage to solve the poverty problems in that timeframe. Then the Reds really will be up the creek.

I have a solution to the poverty problem take Taksins 46 billion confiscated baht and start some real help for the farmers and poor in general. You ever seen how the majority of the rice is planted, harvested, threshed etc. BY HAND. A lot of small tractors, combines and other farming equipment would help alot. And how about attracting, financing cottage industries all over up country. Interest free loans with credits for increasing production and industries loans with credits for employing local people. There is a lot that could be done with 46 billion baht. how many poor head of households are there? I have no idea but if it is 1,000,000 that would be 46,000 baht available for each for farm and business improvements. So what does the powers that be have in mind for this money?

:):D:D:D:D:D is that their mindset???

Great ideas! have you ever heard of layoffs because people get replaced by machines? So don't forget to include a solid social security program for the jobless in your save the poor scenario.
