I've been searching for a decent priced flight but can't seem to find anything less than 850gbp. I'm looking to fly back to the UK 17th Aug to 31st Aug. BA prices are through the roof (i swore i would never fly with them again anyway as they are terrible), Emirates would mean i would have to stop a few times (no go). I did hear that Eva were good for their premier class seats but they were coming in at 50000thb per person!

Can anyone suggest any good travel agents or other airlines for me to try. I dont mind flying in to Amsterdam neither as I can get a flight quite easy from Amsterdam to Abdn.

Thanks in advance

I know you said you don't want to stop but you should try emirates - I got a flight with them GLA-BKK return this summer and last summer for approx £500 (£486 last year and £513 this year).

you could just get a train or bus up from glasgow - it's easier and cheaper than you might think. bus from glasgow to aberdeen can be as little as £1.50 if booked far enough in advance.

Thats the way i would do it i know it's 9000bt difference than China air but who knows what the cost from Amsterdam to Aberdeen would be when you choose to book and maybe you could get someone to pick you up at Glasgow and if not it's only £30 or so return on National express or possibly you could get a funfair but i dont think they give them for Airport routes. Unfortunately we live in a part of the world were travel is difficult i gave up a long time ago and just fly to Heathrow now and get the coach which takes 6hrs30mins because even BMI stopped flying to Durham Tees Valley from London but to be honest i quite like the journey gives me time to relax before seeing the family. Forgot to say Emirates were coming up at 43665bt but a far better airline than China air and that does make a difference i just flew back from UK with Jet airways after hearing good reports but believe me never again sad thing is got a return booked at xmas and i'm dreading it.

Try a search on Kayak. I just got LHR to BKK 1st to 22nd August for £542 on Kingfisher Airlines when even Jet Air were coming in at £650. Who are Kingfisher you may ask, I did too, checked them out:

Here.

They get a Five star rating so I'm happy to try. Wouldn't have touched Jet at any price. When you check Kayak can be worth signing up for the daily email alerts, its what I always do and normally over a period of a week or two something will pop up at a good price as it did for me yesterday so I grabbed it, can be quite a saving when there's 3 of you as in our case. :)

I just flew SAS via Copenhagen this month to ABZ and back as they had the cheapest Business Class. They also came up cheaper on Economy fares on kayak and bt-store but as noted above, their own website is very good for juggling dates and checking the price changes.

Newish A340-300, clean planes, adequate cabin service and the layovers in Copenhagen are only about 2 or 3 hours. They use a Bombardier jet for the 90 minute flight to/from ABZ; small (and full on Friday afternoon!) but adequate. BKK departure/arrival times tie in well with most Thai domestic routes if BKK isn't your start/end point.

Kastrup airport is very, very spartan compared with Schiphol and the location of the passport control means a Thai would need a Schengen visa to access any lounges and all the other facilities but there's a DF shop and a 7-eleven in the 'transit' lounge and the 2 hours flies by. Either way, beats the h3ll out of a London stopover!

AMS just doesn't do it for me - probably coz every time I've been connecting there from BKK>ABZ I've had to wait approx 6 hours (china airlines) + the weak pound means everything in the airport is a total rip off + the airport is just a bit too quiet for me.

I actually don't mind LHR for a stop - I like the hustle'n'bustle and with the weak pound at the moment you're actually better off with regards to beer prices etc compared to AMS.

.....actually, you may want to scrap my suggestion - I just checked emirates.com and 17/08-31/08 BKK-GLA return is coming in at approx 45000THB. ouch. that's a sore one if you are working off sterling (approx £900).

If you think AMS is too quiet, you will hate Kastrup!

6 hour layover with CI? CI gets in after 09:10 and there's a 13:30 flight to ABZ... makes for 3 hours minus disembarking and boarding times, no? Just enough time for a couple of pints of Heineken and some sausage rolls! Won't break the bank.

I can handle LHR transfers when I am on my tod but with family in tow, it's a pain in the arse, especially if you need to clear bags, change terminals and recheck everything. If you get turned on by Heathrow's hustle and bustle, it just about does the average 3 year-olds head in!

yeah, I think they have altered the AMS-ABZ routes recently - I've flown with CI 3 or 4 times before and every time I was landing from BKK approx 9am and the ABZ flight was approx 3pm. I did, however, notice there is now (an) earlier AMS-ABZ flight(s) but I've not booked with CI since summer last year.

the weak pound means beers are over £4 and internet is over a fiver for 30 mins in schipol.

:) I said I like LHR - I don't get turned on by it!! :D

I just find AMS too boring - place is like a morgue. like you said though, if I had kids in tow I would probably like it!!
