The following appeared on the ajarn web site today

Through a new partnership with Manipal University, TEFL International is now able to offer a Bachelors degree in Teaching Technology with an emphasis on TESOL. The cost of all training, including TESOL certificate, is as low as $1,980 and that includes all books and materials! And, depending upon previous educational and life experience, the degree can be completed in as little as one year while retaining a full-time teaching position. It is also possible to obtain a Student Visa for the duration of your studies.

Can anyone offer comment on its credibility.

Anything that says a BA can be achieved in 'one and half to two years' is BS. :o

"Life experience" nice!

^ Go to the home page of Ajarn Bluffer and look at the top left corner (under the bit to the discussion board) it's there in plain sight :o

I'm really biting my tongue at the moment in regards to the spoof comment :D

While I cannot comment on it's credibilty, I can tell you that your degree would be virtually useless just about anywhere else in the world. You would be better served to visit Bangkok and buy a degree for a few thousand baht( that's sarcasm). You would save yourself the time of trying to recall all of your life experiences; the real and not so real ones. That being said, in my oppinion, fast track degrees are no substitute for spending some time actually learning something. Life experiences are valuable teachers and make us who we are, but would you want your Doctor to operate based soley on his or hers? The price is nice; had I only waited I could have saved myself 170,000. USD.

I can also tell you that TEFL International does not have the best reputation around the Pattaya area. They offer a nice course for Thai's working in the food service industry, bars, etc. The problem is that the average Thai working in Pattaya would have to work for 5 years in order to save enough for the tuition. 10,000. Baht for a 30 hour course, is in my oppinion, excessive. That should speak for itself. Most language schools around here offer courses for about a 1-2000. baht per 30 hour course.

Please keep in mind that I can only judge this book by it's cover and a bunch of reader reviews. However, I would do some real research on the place before I laid down the money.

Disclaimer: I do not wish to damage TEFL International in anyway. The above is based on my living within eyesight, as well as the oppinions and concerns of Teachers and Schools in the area. TEFL INTL. has various locations throughout Thailand and this by no way implies that all branches are the same.

Your "oppinion" loses all credibility because you can't spell the word. Sorry to judge a book by "it's" cover.

(No apostrophe in the possessive form of "its" in case you missed the second stab)

It always amazes me when people fire off negative views about entities they have no experience with. shift2k, you try to appear clever and witty but come off like an a@$...

Does anyone else have any experience with TEFL International?

Stacking Zeds,

Speaking of aeholes, the previous poster made it extremely clear that he was reporting heresy and opinion. Good god, what is wrong with that? Obviously one shouldn't base one's decisions strictly on heresy, but as the poster says, it may make one want to look a little closer to verify the claims being made.

As far as opinions being invalid because of making a typo, please get a life. No one is impressed by your anal compulsion to check the spelling of every quickly written internet posting. (at least no one who has a life and doesn’t have the same compulsion is impressed).

I have no experience or idea (or concern) about the institution in question. Shifty's posting didn't convince me that the organization was totally crap, but it did throw up a warning flag or two.

Fair posting, with valuable "information."

If you have anything to add, fine, if your posting is nothing more than an effort showing you spotted a spelling error, yippy for you.

PS possessive form of "its" does not take an apostrophe, an apostrophe is only used in the contraction, for it is. If you are going to be anally compulsive about grammar, learn what u r writing about.

Hence the quotation marks in my posting. Sorry if it was too subtle for you.

I'm sorry but heresy is a capital offence punishable by burning at the stake. Please take it seriously.

Dear Forum Guys,

I have personal experience with TEFL Int. It is a vastly overpriced course at best and at worst an absolute travesty.

You look at the website and it is all warm and fuzzy, but believe me it is all twisted words. I took the course 4 years ago. The promised job placement assistance never materialized. There were drunken fights and pot smoking on the premisis. The all night Karaoke across the street blasted music until 4 in the morning.

The operator of this web of lies and confusion is a meglomaniac who doesn't know truth from fiction. I was back in the area of my former alma mater last October, and I stopped in to check it out four years on. I pretended to be interested in "taking the course". (wink wink)

NOT A THING HAS CHANGED!!! From the four broken down computers for, get this, SIXTEEN OR MORE students to the holes in the table cloths and seedy surroundings. NOTHING HAS CHANGED!

If you do the math on what they charge per student and multiply times 10 or so courses a year, you see that this is a MULTI MILLION BAHT operation. Yet we were taken to our teaching practice in rusted out, broken down open pickup trucks... 20 kilometers or more in the heat and dust. One truck HAD NO REVERSE and course participants had to help push it backwards to go home. The other one, the driver worked the clutch with a CROWBAR through a HOLE IN THE FLOOR.

This is what you get for your $1,600 +++ tuition. It will end up costing you at least $2000 by the time the month is up.

That guy Bruce is a pirate and a shyster an no one will convince me otherwise.

'nuff said
