Don't get into trouble on the day of departure :D It is 200 baht a day. They MIGHT not charge you just for one day :o

Pay the small fine on your way out, no worries.

OK saying that. But that is not very good advice to give someone. Plenty of people do it and everything is alright. But........and a big but,if you get checked or asked by the police to show your passport before you get to the Airport, you can get arrested, locked up and deported. Normally it's only in the event of a traffic accident most falangs fall foul of this, but it's worth weighing up. Remember overstay is a crime. I used to do it all the time after getting the same 'Don't worry' advice till I looked into it.

I would normally not take the risk of a 1 day overstay. Its all about weighing up the pros and cons.

However, in your situation, i would risk it, especially as you have a flight ticket to show these guys proving your intention to leave.

Even immigration at Soi Suan Phlu told me to just go to the airport on a one-day overstay. (I'd just gotten a 14 day extension, and needed 15 to reach my departure date).

However, I know that advice was at least partly because we live a lot nearer to the airport than to the immigration office.

And - for a one-day overstay, there was no charge at the airport. (although that was last year).

Although a one day overstay might sound trivial, why take the risk ? Just letting it go and keeping your head down is bad and foolhardy advice.Sure,u might have a ticket showing your intention to leave . But, u might get pulled aside by some immigration cop having a bad day who makes your life ######. After all, overstaying, even one day, is breaking immigration laws .

Visit your local immigration office before your visa expires and explain the situation, they are reasonable and will give u an extension .It might cost u some baht , but give u peace of mind.

If you read Phil Williams' Bangkokmouth site, you can read his horror story of being caught in an immigration sweep on his apartment building. He spent several days enjoying the facilities of the IDC, despite having only overstayed one day AND being in possesion of an airticket showing he was due to leave that same day. This was several years ago too, in pre-Toxin days.

I would be very reluctant to risk it.

Had the same dilemma last year when I would've overstayed by 8 hours. Decided to pay the 1,900 baht for a 10-day extension in the end; couldn't be assed to go all the way to Mae Sai to bounce the borders. The immigration officer in Chiang Mai said to not worry about it initially and to just pay the fine upon leaving, but when I mentioned I was off to Penang to get my 'o' visa, he said it would be in my best interests to not overstay. I think if I was in your shoes and wasn't coming back for the foreseeable future, I would risk it, but if you're a regular, don't!

That's very good advice mate.I had a immigration lady here in CM tell me the same.

the bangkokmouth site is now gone, but one can read this profoundly eye-opening and well-written account (as Phil always seems to do) at:

Well there you have it Aussman. The two sides to the story. The brave foolish ones who's advice can get you into a lot of trouble, because they don't care, and the sensible ones that have given you both options to weigh up. The answer is in your hands. At least you now know the risks involved. And do tell us how you got on.

Pay the 1900 baht and get the 10 day extension, better still spend a few baht more and have a trip to the Cambodian border 29 days before you are due to leave, you will get 30 days and would have had a trip also.

I knew a guy in Pattaya who got caught up in a problem and he was on one days overstay, they put him in Soi 9 police station jail, then he was sent off to Bangkok after 1 week, kept in IDC for a night or 2 then deported, I would not risk the overstay, you are breaking the Laws of Thailand.

Sure it's ok to pay at the Airport, it's what may happen on the way to the airport that is the problem.

Good luck anyway. :o
