Hermann
Hi, I've gonna to Vientanne for a new NON-B -Visa, and my fiancee & her son will come with me. She got an Thai ID-Card, & we got his Birth certificate, and I know we can get a Border Pass at the Border. My Question: Does anyone know, or has experience, how far we can go ito Laos? Do we have tostay in Vientanne only, or can we go to...anywhere? Thanx
Thanyaburi Mac
Seems to me that Thai with just a "border pass" are supposed to stay pretty much in the Vientiane area, and just for 2-3 days. Don't think that includes trips to Vang Vieng, for example, three hours up the road. However, you can always ask at your guest house/hotel. TerryLH
"However, you can always ask at your guest house/hotel." Or at the border, when you cross.
lazygourmet
Border pass is valid for 72 hours... Not limited to Vientiane, but you will not be able to go far.
keestha
Seem to remember the border pass for Thai people can easily be extended to 14 days (?). Hopefully someone living close to the Lao border who is up to date with this will chip in. Edited April 2, 2010 by keestha
Gobbledoc
It used to be for 3 days only, but that was 2 years ago and only my memory. I thought it had some restriction on distance, but that may have been hear say, not factual. Just double check that you can get it at the border, I remember we could not, and had to go back to some Gov office in the town about half an hour back on the Thai side, a real pain in the butt. Please note, that was 1.5 / 2 years ago, could have changed. I hope it has changed !!!
