I have been looking to buy a 4wd extended cab truck mostly to be used at the farm and a little offroading. I have narrowed my choices to either the Ford XLT 3.0 or the Toyota Smart Cab 4wd. I am leaning towards the ford because it looks nicer and offers an automatic transmission so the wife will enjoy it also.

My concern is if there will be available suspension modifications to transform it into an offroader as they are not as popular here as Toyota and Mitsubishi.

Does anyone know if there are kits availble to modify the suspension of the Fords in Thailand?

BTW I'm not concerned about resale value, fuel or maintenance costs.

The Ford 4X4 already has good road clearance. You can gain a bit more by adjusting the front torsion bars. After adjusting the torsion bars, you should have a re-alignment done. If I remember correctly I paid 300 baht for adjusting the torsion bars and laser alignment.

solid axle conversions

Interesting, we have issues with the front axle weight limits on the Rangers, A solid axle conversion would fix this... Do you have any further info on this conversion.

this is a solid axle swap tech page for rangers, there a little older but that really dosent matter as your cutting all te old stuff off, only problem would be finding a suitable front axle candidate, but with a little modification a toyota solid axle should work if your serious maybe a conversation with the guys at option 4x4 here in thailand wouldnt hurt as the do tons of swaps for the vigos....its not a big huge diffrence, may need to order some parts from ford usa, but if your serious about it its worth the work, butonly if your really into 4wheeling

Thats an American Ranger with coil springs, the local ones have torsion bars and I would expect not really viable to perform such a conversion.

Sigh, I thought you meant there was a kit already available.

no kits, but its do able, plenty of new vigo's and reativley new sport riders running around with solid axle swaps, as for the suspensionit dosent matter as the whole front end set up would need to be cut off steering, ifs and all brackets, and oli pan changed.. you would choose what your new suspension would be, coilovers, or leafsprings..
