The IATA database, which details global immigration requirements, indicates a passport and visa is officially required to enter Cambodia. But have seen some reports on the forum of some immigration border crossings issuing 'day permits' for Thai nationals, but suspect that won't help you for 7 day stay if indeed is still current.

when I went to Laos, ok it was just a boat trip (free from a Chinese company as long as you went to their new casino) g/f only needed ID card and I showed them my Oyster card (used for travel on London transport system!) told them it was UK ID card! :)

her passport is full of Cambodia entry stamps from visits to casinos, no visa required, I guess it depends on what border crossing and the purpose of the visit, if you're on a bus going to the casino from Bangkok then probably not, but if you're entering at an airport or going over as a 'proper' visitor then stated rules will probably apply.

People are getting confused here.

For a bog standard trip to Cambodia, you'll need a passport and also purchase a visa on arrival.

If you are going to the border to use the casino's etc, Thai's can get away with crossing over for the day with no visa formalities, but they can't go any further.

Unlike going to Laos, most Thai's can't get a border pass to visit Cambodia. these are only specially available to Thai's with a house registration in a province which borders Cambodia.

In summary, you'll need a passport and visa if you are Thai and going for a regular holiday.

I saw a photo on Nation today showing Thai & Cambodian officials on Thai-Cambodian Friendship Bridge - holding up their respective passports - with the caption saying that Thai can visit visa-free for stays up to 14 days. Can somebody confirm that this is true for all Cambodian port of entry? Thank you.

Confirm. As of 16 December 2010, Thai people can visit Cambodia, and Cambodian people can visit Thailand, for 14 days visa-free. Mind you, this is not a border apss but really visa exemption in the sense of ASEAN.

In fact, I had earlier heard that this would come into effect on 23 December and am surprised that they went ahead even faster.

However it might not be the best idea. Traffic is way down as more prudent travelers seem to be avoiding cross border trips for the moment; even many of those normally interested only in spinning the wheels of chance.

Can anyone update me on the current situation ... are Thais without a passport (just an ID card) allowed to stay for a few days in Cambodia?

Generally, no. Border passes aren't readily available to Thai citizens (unlike for travel to Laos).

Need a passport, but get 15 days visa free entry.

I know that this is normally the case - I was refering to the visa exemption that was mentioned above and that has been introduced a couple of months ago as it seems. Unfortunately I can't find any related information on the Khmer Embassy website.

That is what I meant. Thai's get 15 day visa free entry when they enter on their passport.

Went there myself 6 weeks ago, stamped in without a problem at PP airport.
