i saw this report on a blog on the Nation

April 9, 2010

I have heard a rumour that Thaksin Shinawatra is seriously sick. This follows his chemotherapy treatment in a Dubai hospital a couple of days ago. He went into a state of shock yesterday.

He is suffering from the side effects of the treatment. Thaksin has been known to be suffering from prostate cancer for a while.

Thaksin's medical treatment is the reason why he failed to make a phone-in into his Red Shirt supporters in Bangkok over the past several days.

Is he seriously ill?

A team of doctors from Rama 9 Hospital have been despatched to Dubai to help treat Thaksin.

"Dr Vorachai Ratanatharathorn, a chemotherapy specialist, has suddenly asked for a leave from Rama 9 Hospital. A team of doctor has also left for Thailand to Dubai," a well-known doctor in Bangkok told me.

Many Shinawatras are travelling to Dubai to pay a visit to Thaksin.

"But one of my friends has just told me that Thaksin was having breakfast this morning," the doctor said.

One person who has talked to a relative of the Shinawatras told me that Thaksin is believed to be seriously ill.

"A team of doctors from Rama 9 Hospital has also left for Dubai. The medical equipment will be sent via a separate cargo flight," he said.

A friend of mine at Kasikornbank just called me five minutes ago for confirmation of the rumour that Thaksin is seriously ill.

However, Yingluck Shinawatra, or Pu, who is a sister of Thaksin, has just talked to one of her friends that Thaksin is doing fine.

Yingluck is also believed to have left Bangkok for Dubai.

They have to fly in equipment to Dubai??? There are none in Dubai??!!! They are able to strip Rama 9 hospital of its equipment to send to Dubai??

Wouldn't it be better to fly Taksin to Thailand? Would cost much less!

The red insurgency was billed as Thaksin's FINAL endgame. Of course, all the other final pushes were ALSO called that, so we can assume the Thaksin "final" pushes will continue as long as Thaksin lives or the money runs out.

Now, which one will come first ?

The story of Thaksin having prostate cancer is entirely fictitious. It was a rumour started by one of his opponents in parliament. The fact that the Nation has failed to rebut the story tells you all you need to know about the Nation and the colour of its proprietors.

really? last time he was seen, he did seem to look the characteristic grey colour like he was in chemo, he appeared to be wearing a syrup and to give the article some credibility the author of the article Thanong is a staff writer for the Nation

also if one googles 'Thaksin Chemotherapy' there are over 4500 hits and not all on the same source

some articles claim he has had prostrate cancer for some time

if its not true, one presumes Thaksin or his family will sue..........?

In the media wars for readership, companies very frequently report on rumours. Tacky to be sure! Not real news to be sure! Useful only if the rumour is said to be a rumour.

The rumors are understandable. If you follow the news, he has dropped some HINTS about his mortality and his desire not to die outside Thailand which could be taken as a cry for sympathy from a dying man. Of course we don't know, a lot of people with illnesses understandably try to hide them as long as possible.

Thanong has a history of reporting rumour as if it were fact. Very recent history ....

Stress kills, and if he had just gone into quiet retirement

after retiring as PM and not UN-retiring as PM back in 2006,

then likely his stress levels of the last 4 years would have been MUCH lower.

He seems to have though regaining his perceived loss of face more important than his health.

Wouldn't be the first to die of pride on this earth.

Maybe this is just a story,

but if it isn't then it has it's logical aspects for truth.

just wishful thinking...

Still does not solve the real problems of Thailand if he is gone. But who really wants better education for the masses any way. Economy heats up, cost of living increases, fewer ladies to treat the farang, only the better off can afford to retire in the LOS. No longer sounds like paradise for the masses.

:D I am undergoing chemotherapy in Melbourne after diagnosed at Bangkok Christian Hospital. I did not bring any equipment from Thailand despite the chaos of the Oncology Ward where I am an out patient here......and there is nothing to joke about concernng cancer...besides imagine if they found a cure, how would all those medicos make money, not to mention the drug barons... :)

Over the years Thaksin and his mates took part in ''Magic Rituals'' so as to gain power and confound their enemies by invoking the spirits to assist their causes.

Perhaps the spirits of Thaksins victims at Tak Bai or those from ''The war on drugs or that of a missing prominent Muslim lawyer have come to pay a visit and to seek revenge for their believers.

Personally I can't say I feel sorry for Thaksin, the wheel of life turns, do good and good returns, do bad and bad returns.

Poetic Justice.

Its just not good karma to wish illness and death even on people who you think have done very bad things. There are probably exceptions like Hitler and Pol Pot, but I will leave the final judgment of Thaksin up to the higher powers (which I don't really believe in, but respect that many do).
