Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Please could you give me some advice as i am desperate. I live in Lao and recently my Lao fiancee had to go to Udon thani aek udon hospital for a serious operation.

So i have been doing a border bounce to thailand for $35 per 28 days, but on returning to Lao (Nong Khai) the Lao boder told me i could not enter the country because there was'nt a page free for the 28day visa!!!! at which point they informed me i would have to get a new passport.....now this is the 'KICKER' ! my Thai 14 day visa is up on Tuesday 13th, so Songkran! and how do i get 1 month visa in my passport without the room/page??? and then put my passport in for renewal?

My passport is by no means full and is not even 4 years old!

Please give me some sound advice, as i'm pretty much 'screwed' i think!

Thanks , a stressed out Kevin

ps and please dont tell me its my fault i know that already but my head was some where else with my fiancee's op.

Look to be in Bangkok at Monday morning 12.4. go to your Embassy-check out if they are open and let them do a temporary Passport for you.

Maybe possible in time before the embassy closes for Songkhran.

If that is not possible, the Embassy-consular section cannot do it so fast or you cannot make it in time to your embassy

and you want to avoid an Overstay, go to the nearest Immigration and apply for a legal 7 day extension of your stay in TH for 1.900 Baht.

or leave the country threw a land or airportborder and go or fly to a country which only stamps the Passport, for that it should be enough space in your Passport, possible less than half a page=two exit and two entry stamps-dates.

Possible to fly to Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi), Singapore or fly to Phuket, (It has Udon Thani-Phuket non stop flights) and use the seaborder to Myanmar at Ranong (Andaman casino island or Kauwthung), so to extend your allowed-legal stay in TH.

Flights with Air Asia or Tiger airways, Jet Airways make it possible to make such trips on the same day.

Overstay would be 500 baht a day, but can have unwanted consequencies.

The majority of people who work there are Thai, and the Embassy was open on Easter Monday. They are open on Monday and Friday this week.

I am pretty sure that is no such thing as a temporary passport, though I would be happy to be proved wrong. I think what you can get is an Emergency Travel Document, though I am pretty sure that this is only valid for a single use when returning to your home country on a direct flight. To save a wasted journey, why don't you try and call them, 02 305 8252?

In answer to your other question http://ukinthailand.fco.gov.uk/en/about-us...working-for-us/ :)

I can only talk for AUSTRIA, you get in case of a stolen, lost or fully stamped Passport a TEMPORARY PASSPORT valid for up to a year-max.

Some years ago I had the problem of a lost Passport and in 24 hours I had my temporary Passport for the next month.

Kevbap

Just wondered how you got on at the Embassy on Monday with your quest for an emergency passport, just hoping you might have proved me wrong.

got to the embassy early monday, did all the paperwork and then decided i would go to immigration for an extra 7 days.

Hate dealing with the embassy from a distance bu the staff in there were very very helpful and friendly.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks t.h.g. no mention of a temporary passport, sorry!

Temporary Passport.

UK produces the Passports in Hongkong I was reading and you get them in a week to 10 days or so.

Austria produces the Passports in Austria with Computerchip and fingerprints ect. and there are special papers needed, you would have to show-birthcertificate ect.

to qualify you to make a Passport at an Embassy.

To my knowledge you must also be an Expat, if not, you have to apply in your hometown.

It needs weeks to get the passport in Austria,

even longer to get a passport in BKK.

So there is a good reason for the possibility of a Temporary Passport for Austrians.
