Jimmyd
Yep, the water has commenced flowing--farangs with no shirts and dangerous tube water guns are thankfully isolated at the bottom of Soi 8, but many passing motorbikes are none too happy. Dontcha just lurve Pattaya sometimes?

syd barrett
Thought it might: Sunday 11th. Eight more days to go.... The 'hard core' Songkrawn specialists love Soi 8. Purposely scheduled one trip to coincide with Songkran. By day 2 I had enough. The problem is that during the day you can't go anywhere. Try to walk to the mall or take the baht bus to the movie and you get soaked. Same goes for any activitiy outside of your hotel. It is just too inconvenient. If they did it for one weekend or a day or two, I would tough it out, but the whole week and into the night, no thanks. Just as important was the look and feeling I saw on many of the Thai's faces. They really are lashing out at foreigners, and others. Probably kind of a good thing that they can vent some anger and frustrations in a relatively harmless way, but Songkran just disturbs things too much. rafval
everyone I know has left Pattaya to avoid it, it cant be good for business and for me having the same jerk throw a bucket of water over me every time I leave my room for 7 days is not funny, its abusive. one day is plenty
nam-thip
The idiots throwing water in and around Soi’s 7 and 8 are a bunch of drunken yobs from my observations. It’s about time they isolated the water throwers and give them an area they can play their silly game. Thank fck Thailand has places that only allow it to go on for three days so I can get the hel_l away from it all. JMS
We have this topic every year with the same moans and groans. Why dont you vote with your feet and leave Thailand (like me) and close your business then maybe people would have limited places to eat, drink and shop. But this will never happen so you will have to put up with it. How about topic closed I HATE SONGKRAN

Juzrelax
I did Songkran in Pattaya last year and had a great time, although a week of it is a bit much. I'll do it again in future but will arrange my trip so that I'm there to catch the 2 main days at the end.

Have you forgotten that the only way to get from north to south Pattaya on a baht bus is along Beach Rd, which makes pretty much everyone victim to the Soi 8 water throwers. I used to enjoy Songkran, till the *&%#^&*& discovered ice water.
torrenova
Make it 2 days and that is fine. At 8 or 9 days, it is madness. For sure I want some oik scratching the hel_l out of my motor with their powder and water paste shit all over my new car. Or perhaps I should just sit indoors for 10 days ? It has become so far removed from the original intention that to refer to it as anything other than stupidity is pathetic. Want to bet on how many kill themselves this year ? somtampet
i have just had the traditional thai water sprinkling and talk on my face,by 3 thai kids. They were reluctant to come to me,near my house, and i asked mamma why,she said kids think farangs are crazy at songkran and was worried they would want to drown them. Very nice happy new year gesture from them to me,as a neighbour, then you come across the thick stupid farangs who think you have to scratch the face off with talk, and shoot your eyes out. Now wouldnt it be nice if farangs actualy knew the tradition instead of going out to find a few bg with wet t shirts and no bra on,because thats the only reason you cretins come to Pattaya for. bob6023
I lived and played in Pattaya for 5 years, but after the first Songkron I usually found some where else for a week. The thais aren't that bad its the drunken as_ho_e falangs that used to pi$$ me off. Now I live in Nowhere village up north , the thais do it up here too, but its just little kids throwing pans of water on your truck as you drive by. No drunken falangs up here. FarangBuddha
Grumpy old men keep posting your winges here...take the stress off before you blow an aorta I drove all around town this morning or errands and didn't see any watersports activity. Except for the fereng infested sois 7 and 8, there really isn't much action until next weekend. What's not to like about a week long wet t-shirt contest...if you don't like it...stay inside for a week...it's 35 degrees outside anyway and order in: food...massages...girls...whatever...it's Pattaya Edited April 12, 2010 by FarangBuddha
