My Wife Hates The Sun In Thailand

not a chance, if you are referring to me... i cannot stand issan girls and everything to do with

their culture... my wife is from chiang mai, and is naturally light skinned. however, we have plenty

neighbours, mostly germans and british in their late 50s, with dark skinned isaan wives - after a few

words, my wife does not talk to them anymore - they speak poison behind the back of their man, talking

about how to extract more money, making sure the house is in her name, how to take money

quietly and send it back home - its actually so bad, we are moving to outside a moobahn soon

and building a 3m high concrete fence around the property, so that we dont have to hear such

backstabbing talk and have contact with such lo-so's...

How interesting!

Do you really think that all dark skinned Thais are 'out to get your money' & cannot be trusted?

WALLHIGH

What about a machine gun post and huge security lights,a couple of sas guards and maybe this will stop the infidels from talking to your beautiful hi-so,light skinned missus.

Wallhigh,

If you hadn't used the term Lo so's your post would have been worthy of applause. I too tire of hearing the bad mouthing that goes on among this fringe. I understand a decent amount of Thai so when I sit in the internet shop and listen to groups of women online with numerous farang "Sponsors" and hear them laughing as they get them to send money, my heart sinks. It makes me yet more unlikely to seek a life partner here. The only think worse is socialising with farang who out their little cherub up on a pedastal and have no idea of the reality of thier situation. My greatest lesson in thailand, "Ignorance really is bliss".

lo-so is not my term, we do not have such derogatory terms in australia for the most part.

lo-so is something thais use against other thais, justifiably or not is open to debate by the

wise members of this board.

Not open to debate,it is racist and disgusting, just like many farangs who have gf/wives who speak with bad mouth.Lowest of the low for me

the thai wife says...

dark skin = lo-so, farming type girls working the land or the noodle stand or the bars in bangkok

-- many of the older westerners here prefer the dark skin for a gf...

white skin = hi-so, thainese upper class office & educated ladies

-- how many white skin thai girls do you see at Nana or Cowboy? Not many.... why?

simple as that...

So what about the south thais who are dark and many middle class ones too.I would bet money that your missus is light skin and loves to batter herself with whitener

she has never used whitener in her life, she is naturally light skinned, and so is her mother.

the opinion stated above is not her opinion alone, ask any non-isaan woman in thailand her

opinion of isaan women and how they treat foreigners, also do some research on the isaan

culture on the internet, and some stories of men who have been ripped off and cheated, and

you will find a common thread.

Excuse me,i do know plenty about Thailand, else i would not have posted a reply.Plenty of Bangkok hi-so wannabees stitch up farangs too.The bangkok equivelant to Puket/Pattaya bar girl are called tourist guides, and i have seen plenty who would have sex for a few pounds.Look at the Bangkok studens on hi5,many many are part time whorees,so dont talk to me about how much i know.

fyi

i do know some non isaan women and they are good people who would not talk dirty and cheap about other thais, maybe a change of gf would not go a miss if you are not full of bs

sorry if i have touched off a raw nerve there, i would like to know how you know about the

bad girls on hi5? i also have never taken a tour in bangkok, so am not sure about the tour

guides, have to defer to your experience for that one.

even in the media, they make negative remarks about that region of the country. it is ingrained

in their psyche, for good or bad, that thailand is divided into regions - the north east, the central

and the south, and where you come from is important just like in many other countries.

from what i have seen, the thais separate themselves into the following classes:

the rich (and dont need to prove it)

hi-so (not really rich, but have enough)

hi-so wannabee (usually the falang wife fits in here)

normal everyday people

lo-so

low level labour (myanmar, etc)

on a good point, they make great somtam in khon kaen and udon thani, but you probably know

that already, so it aint all bad.

I just happened to read this report a few weeks back and thought it was very good of Mayor Binay to say this publicly:

Binay: Love your brown skin

MANILA, Philippines - Be proud of your brown complexion and love it, Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay said Friday.Binay, running mate of former President Joseph Estrada, made the call to Filipinos amid a recent recall of China-made whitening products that contain toxic substances.

He said Filipinos must appreciate their God-given brown complexion.

“We are brown and we should be proud. I call them Kasins, short for Kasin-itim,” Binay said.

Before leaving for Singapore to attend the three-day Asia Pacific Boy Scouts meeting of which he is the chairman, Binay said beauty-product firms are distorting the concept of beauty by pushing the use of whitening and other cosmetic products.

“Cosmetic firms have been selling their products by subliminally promoting distaste for our natural brown complexion. Unfortunately, those who cannot afford the cost of high-end products contented themselves with inferior substitutes, which contain toxic substances,” Binay said.

He said while Caucasians crowd the country’s beaches to get a good tan, some Filipinos have succumbed to the lure of whitening products and want to have lighter skin.

“It is not color that divides us but poverty and hunger. The idea of being peddled is that we are not beautiful just because we are not fair-skinned. That is not true,” Binay said.

He said lightening one’s complexion is a personal choice, and he respects the rights of Filipinos to freedom of choice. – Jose Rodel Clapano, Philippine Star

Many people in western countries thought the same way until about 100 years ago.

There are bad apples in every country/society/etc. - Thailand is no different BUT there are also many GOOD, HONEST, HARDWORKING, DOWN-TO-EARTH people here too. Sometimes we have to meet a few bad people in life before we appreciate the good ones.

My wife is pale and doesn't care much if she gets darker from the sun. What she does care about is what the UV rays does to her skin, such as cause wrinkles, make the skin lose it's elasticy, and cause cancer. She won't fret getting a bit darker, but it's the end of the world if a new wrinkle shows up!

Let people cry over how horrible the mentality about it and how it's so superficial, they tend to forget just how many things like this exist in their own home countries. hel_l, even if we mix the races enough that as a race humans become a nice mocha color, we will still have people find something to have a pissing match over. "Oh, but I am light mocha, not dark mocha". "I have thick hair, not stringy thin hair". As a race we're pretty much <deleted>, get used to it

Overall i find this white elitist shit very disturbing when farangs get involved in this racism too.We all know that thai elites have been looking down their noses to dark skinned thais but now they have forced their ideals on simple farangs.

I think you might have that backwards. I don't think they are looking down on them because they are dark. But rather their darkness establishes them as working class. They are darker because they are working class - they are not working class because they are darker.

Not racism so much as classism. (sp?)

I agree though; I think the whites (and by that i mean non-thais) probably read into it more than Thais. Class and level is part of Thai society. It can be witnessed in everything from the depth of the wai, the Pee / Nong name prefixes and all manner of politeness suffixes.

I'm sure the average Thai doesn't think about it at all. Rather it's us nosey farangs who try to understand it using our own foreign concepts.

my wife actually considers herself lo-so, both her parents are lamyai farmers, and she is not

white skinned, she is very light brown, but her family seems to be more lightly colored than the

rest of her town, Doi Tao. its actually a quaint little poor town 125 km from CM, so absolutely

nothing hi-so at all. i try to get them all to change these concepts of hi and lo, but so many

people are ingrained with these notions. you have to blame the education system and the media

for brainwashing people.

this culture, and the proliferation of ladyboys on tv and the joking about them, is what has made me

finally decide to go back to melbourne, sure we have issues there, but they seem more intelligent

than the low brow stuff going on in this country.

3 metre high wall makes it sound like a castle. That makes me think of ramparts and a moat. A drawbridge too.

Back on topic. My wife is light brown. She hates becoming dark skinned because it is seen as working class. 40 Dec C outside? She will wear a coat if she is out on the motorbike or walking far from the car.

In the market the other day buying chicken breasts the woman at the counter remarked my wife was looking darker. Needless to say, out came the whitening creams :)

Must be something to do with all the brainwashing commercials that skin color looks bad. I like dark skin but my girl would also prefer to have less of a tan. The Thai gals would love snow country. Pale & pasty complexions.

It's obv. personal who you want to keep in and out of your property. And to blame ppl from who you know in fact they lower themselfs to scam others under false predictions is very understandable. But don't get your head spinning that skin color is in any way related to behaviour, and don't be foolish to actually say that all 30 million people originating from the NE of LOS are all bad and all the same.

It's very simple, poverty will trigger ppl to do some nasty things, so it's obvious that the poorer, less educated part of the population will more often go into faul play trying to make a living.

IMHO there is no black and white in Thailand, only grey...

a common thread of racism and snobbery. All this talk of hi-so lo-so makes me sick. One of my friends in Bangkok who is light-skinned and from quite a well off family says she hates it too, not all Thai people express these discriminatory views.
