Reading TV certainly opens our eyes to human nature and how diverse we all are.

It is such a pity that we are all so caught up in our own little worlds, so ready to find faults with other people, so ready to be so self righteous, so ready to show our greed, our opinions and our selflessness or selfishness, so ready to argue, fight and even go to war.

But what do we all do to help ourselves with Mother Nature. Not a lot.

As a race we have failed to wake up to the simple fact that we the only species on the planet that are destroying our own environment, and doing very, very little to stop that destruction.

There is a good reason that Mother Nature buried carbons below the surface of the earth – they are deadly to the species that live on the surface.

Yet, we the Human Race are so self interested and selfish that we consider ourselves above this obvious fact, and continue to destroy the planet upon which we live. We kill off plant and animal species from which we can learn, and benefit; we greedily consume coal, oil, gas and other dangerous resources to the detriment of the planet and eventually to ourselves.

Do we really believe that Human Nature can outsmart Mother Nature?

We forget, Mother Nature has had millions of years to create a safe environment for us to live in.

Yet in only a few hundred years we have caused what is likely, in reality, irreparable damage to our environment.

There is strong evidence that the pollutants we continue to belch into the environment every day will kill us all in a relatively short time (in Mother Natures terms at least).

Global warming, deforestation, population growth, civilization, globalization, technological advances, greed – what good are these products of Human Nature doing us all?

We are such a self destructive species – the only one which kills for the sake of it, exploits for the sake of it, or for greed – not out of necessity.

How long will Mother Nature be patient with us?

Is she showing her impatience?

Tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods, severe weather conditions, droughts, etc.

Yet we all battle on with our own petty differences, selfishness and greed with utter indifference to the fact that one day, sooner than later, Mother Nature will have her turn – again.

She has done it before, and she will do it again – this time at our invitation and with our assistance.

Do we really think we have it over Mother Nature?, that we can reverse the damage we have done and continue to do. We are kidding ourselves. Yet we never learn!

If only we could live in harmony! If only we could wake up – to ourselves.

Let’s hope Mother Nature doesn’t wake up first.

Life was so much better back when we all lived the simple life off the land with no impact to our surrounding world.

Just a pity that life expectancy was around 35.

Many animals kill for the sake of it - cats especially. Natural disasters aren't man made (hence the name I guess :D ) - and have been around a lot longer than we have. Pompei, Krakatoa, The Ancients Greeks constantly fought with volcanic eruptions and earthquakes, and so on. Its the earth's magma currents moving around and continental plates rubbing up against each other - and not caused by anything we do. Pollution and global warming we add to, but even that we add barely a fraction to what "Mother Earth" does to herself - look at how much CO2 is released from the Mariana Trench for example and how much volcanic action attributes to it. Also deforestation - the Sahara was once a rain forest, but now its a 3.5 million square mile sand pit - nothing to do with us - the Siberian forests were flash frozen when we were traipsing around in bear skins - millions of square miles of forest turned to ice wastes - nothing to do with us.

Luckily in Thailand, we don't pollute by burning rice paddies or waste water throwing it at passing motorcycles :)

Not true. All species will destroy their environment if given the opportunity. That is what unchecked population growth does. Look at this history of the reindeer on St. Matthew Island for an excellent example of this. The destruction of the environment and food source quickly results in a die off of the offending species. If the species is resilient, they will adapt and form a new equilibrium at a lower density. If they are not, they become extinct.

The collapse and die off of the human race are coming soon. We don't need to do anything other than what we are doing right now. The faster we burn those excess hydrocarbons, the less damage we will do before the deaths begin in earnest. The worst thing we could do is have a long, protracted period of business as usual before getting down to the business of starvation and pestilence. Whatever you do, do not do anything to conserve unless it benefits you directly. What you don't use, someone else will. Humans are not smarter than yeast, we are simply more violent.

Humans are remarkably resourceful though and will eventually recover centuries from now after several billion of us have perished. Thailand will be a better country than the West to live during this terrible period. At least the people here still know the ways of subsistence agriculture. I'd hate to live over there during the early stages of the coming collapse.

Thank you, That was one of my Thailand related points,,,,

AND,

to the other posters,

the great TV read goes on.......with all the clever (?) comments..

Why don't you 'get a life' whilst you are still alive & take your thoughts to a relevant forum...like most people who have 'common sense'.

There are only about 1% of TV posters (if that) who are interested in your monolog...the other 99% couldn't care less.

I like what you say but it's a waste of bandwidth here unless you make it directly 'Thai related'.

Nothing wrong with reminding people that environmental care is important for the future.........just not sure a sermon is the way to convey the message....but if it gains attention......then the comment is worthwhile.
