Assailants fired M-79 grenades at Sala Daeng skytrain station

The bomb hits injured 25, including three foreigners

BANGKOK: -- Assailants fired M-79 explosives onto Sala Daeng skytrain station, injuring four, near the site where multicoloured protesters were confronting with the red shirts on Thursday night.

Two of the four were foreigners while the rest were Thais.

The first hits took place at 8.30pm. Police said three explosions, believed to be M-79 grenades, were fired at the third floor of the the skytrain. The explosions sent people waiting at the station ran out in panic.

The fourth explosion hit the roof of the skytrain station shortly after.

The fifth bomb attack took place in front of Bank of Ayudhya's Sala Daeng branch near Sala Daeng skytrain at 20.45pm. The blast injured three other people.

The blasts dispersed the protesters of multicoloured and red shirts who had confronted each other at Rajprasong Intersection since 5pm.

At least 1 died, 75 injured from Silom blasts

BANGKOK (NNT) -- At least one fatality and 75 injuries have been reported from a series of five explosions at Sala Daeng station of BTS sky train, Dusit Thani Hotel, and Bangkok Bank Headquarters in the business district of Silom in the heart of Bangkok on Thursday night.

The first three explosions took place on Sala Daeng station of BTS sky train near the skywalk, where troops, BTS staff, and media members were stationed there in their operation. About three people have been injured from the blasts, two of them are reported to be foreigners.

The next bomb then exploded at 20.50 hrs near Dusit Thani Hotel, located at the beginning of Silom Road. At least four people have been injured by the incident. Another explosion broke out at 21.00 hrs at Bangkok Bank Headquarters on Silom Road, injuring more than 20 people.

BTS sky train has stopped operating while all shops along Silom Road have been closed down. Troops have closed down the road prohibiting entry to and exit from the area. Patients have been rushed to Bangkok Christian Hospital, Chulalongkorn Hospital, Lerdsin Hospital, and Saint Louis Hospital.

According to initial investigation, the explosions were assumed to be M79 grenades launched in forms of projectile. Official investigation is underway.

Some of the injured are reported to be those attending the rally of multi-color-clad demonstrators gathering at Silom Road to protest against the movement of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD).

THE NATION: Govt admits injury toll may still rise from 75. Chula Hopsital reported the dead victim is female - no name announced yet.

THE NATION: Update on arrest: Several news outlets (not sure if getting it from same sources) say 4 or 5 "retired" soldiers have been nabbed.

THE NATION: Thai PBS: Some of Silom group haven't left the area and re-groouped 10 mins ago. They were angry and tension could rise again.

THE NATION: SAD!!!! Jutuporn said Silom explosions had nothing to do with reds then he opened the music and let redshirts dance merrily. via@jobjabjab.
