Panthip Plaza Near Trouble Spots?

Featured Replies

Hi Is Panthip Plaza anywhere near the site of the red shirt/any other coloured shirt protestors?

We're at the Bumrungrad hospital for a couple of days and would like to visit Panthip, but avoid any chance of trouble - is this possible? Thanks

I would suggest avoid Panthip but go to Fortune instead

There are Red shirts in the area, but Pantip is not part of the rally site. The rally site ends at the Pratunam intersection. It is easy to access Pantip and should not pose any problems at all. It might be a bit crowded in the evening time, but day time generally has light traffic.

It is, however, easier and probably a bit safer to go to IT Mall on Ratchada.

Keep in mind that Sukhumvit Soi 3 is a one way street, so if you grab a tax,i or drive, you would have to use Sukhumvit before doubling back to Petchaburi (if going to Pantip) using Wireless. It Mall should be easily accessible directly down from the Sukhumvit-Asok intersection.

Hi,

I would definitely avoid Pantib. The main protest site is right around the corner, so safety would be a big concern as well as terrible traffic due to the road closures.

Fortune Town IT center has the same stuff as Pantib and is close to Bumrungrad. You can take the subway and get off at the Rama 9 Station and follow the signs.

You can go with the BTS from Nana to Ratchatevi and walk from there to Pantip or use a Motorbike Taxi. I was there 5 days ago, no problems, didn't see a single red shirt.

I did the same and there was no problem at all. I would still go there even this week if I needed to. I walked up to the main area where the red-shirts were congregating. They had no interest at all in bothering foreigners when I was there. I suppose it could all change, but you would have time to get out if you could see the troops starting to get restless.

Was at Pantip a couple of days ago. Didn't see too many red shirts around.

It's a few minutes walk from Pantip (passing Platinum) to Pratunam junction.

Would probably be there again tomorrow or day after.

Traffic and parking was pretty much as usual.

Thanks to all for advice.

We got in a taxi, my wife (Thai), asked for Fortune Mall - the computer centre, and the driver took us to Panthip!!

Saw some red shirts at their protest place on the way back, but Panthip was trouble free.
