Where To Buy Software In Phuket Town?

Recommended Posts

I've just received a new laptop and a couple of the apps I use need to be reinstalled. I have the serial numbers and I just need the discs. Is there a place in Phuket City to purchase software discs? If not in Phuket City somewhere on Phuket? Thanks.

I don't really know anyone here selling legal software.

At least I haven't come across any shop selling different type of software but there are some selling Microsofts.

Why not download?

Easiest way to get hold of most software, otherwise buy a cracked copy, you have the serial numbers so it's legit for you to get copies.

A post asking where to buy copy software has been removed.

I remind all members that Thaivisa does not permit posts about copies of illegal software or CDs.

I just want to clarify one thing.

Most software producers sell licenses, not the software, so it's actually legit to buy a copy of a software on CD/DVD.

The part when it becomes illegal is when you infringe on the license agreement, like cracking the software or posting keys out to anyone.

A license is the right to use the software, not to own it.

Copying Microsoft Disks of any sort is illegal. Be it any of there office products or operating systems. Even if you own the original disk and have a valid licence either a retail product or OEM. It is illegal to copy or make backup copies of the originals even for yourself. The disk/disks remain the intellectual property of Microsoft at all times even though you have bought them. It states on all Microsoft software disks ” not to copy” ...When you first install any Microsoft product you have to agree to the EULA (end user licence agreement) and that about gives up all your rights even if the software doesn't work...

unfortunately Microsoft make it as difficult as possible to obtain replacement software disk be they damaged or lost.

hope that helps.

If you have the serial numbers etc [genuine] you can download from most software companies website. e.g. If you have a photoshop serial then just go to their site.

You may be exporting US laws or incorrectly understanding various laws.

In most of the world fair use allows you to backup any disk you have legally purchased. And while the IP may remain microsofts the physical disk is yours, not microsofts thats totally not correct.

Also EULA's can be written to say anything, that you must donate your firstborn to slavery etc, doesnt mean they are legally correct or enforceable.

The support page you pointed at is the EULA for OEM products, not purchased directly from Microsoft and from 2007.

There are stricter rules for OEM's, mostly because the operating systems are targeted towards a specific brand of computer, like Acer, HP, Compaq, Sony and many more.

With that said, I agree with you in part when it comes to operating systems.

But you ain't correct when you say it's illegal to make backup copies.

The reason, at least I think it is, why they put such emphasis on OEM products is that the setup will go wrong when installing a targeted operating system onto a completely different computer.

When things go wrong installing MS OS, people blame MS for it.

I myself legally download all my software from Microsoft, called MSDN subscription, for which I pay a yearly sum.

I have done so since 2004 and will continue to do it, I download OS, Office, Windows Servers, SQL Servers, development tools + many more, and its completely legal as I pay for it.

The keys I get from MS website, http://msdn.microsoft.com but I have to log in with my purchased login Id to do so.

Read their EULAs but not for the OEM products.

I have dealt with MS products since 1984 and they have changed their EULA as many times there's a new version of any of their software products.

If you do crack a software, alter the compiled code or publish/sell keys of any commercial software producers product, you make it into a legal matter.

Agree that some still try to enforce that the hardcopy of the software is still the software company property but as of 200? something, software goes under the laws, even in the US, as copyright protection (Thailand and some other countries excluded), like for photographs, books, art etc. not under patent laws.

This mean you can make copies of the software, those without a key or copy protection, for your own personal use but not for distributing to others.

This topic contain so many different scenarios and laws from so many countries that it's impossible to cover it all without refering to lawyers specialized in software but as a general rule,

if you buy a cracked version, you don't brake the law, in Thailand, in US or EU, not until you use the key or crack during/after installation have you breached the license agreement.

With that said, if you have a legally purchased key, you aren't doing anything illegal.

For example MS is quite happy if you spread Windows 7 as a copy to anyone.

The one selling the software discs brakes the law but not you as a buyer.

Of course any software producer don't want to have cracked copies out so the best choice is to download from the producer directly or get a valid disc from them.

But what to do when the software company don't deliver to Thailand, a copy on a disc might be the only option but I emphasize, never use the cracked version with stolen or illegal key, use your legal license key.

If you might believe I condone illegal copies with an illegal key or copy protection, I ask of you to read through my post again.
