Hope you guys may be able to assist.

I'm flying to BKK tomorrow and then heading down to Samui. The FCO here in the UK, have issued a travel warning against all non-essential travel to anywere in Thailand. Hence my travel insurance is now invalid. Can I buy insurance for 2 weeks whilst in thailand from a Thai company? If yes does anyone have any recommendations?

Also, should my bags be lost (sod's law - as its never happended to me before) in transit...is this covered by the airlines insurance?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Chok dee.

There was a topic running earlier today on this. I can't find it now. Instead of searching individual forums, why not click on the view new posts button up above, it will show you all new topics from every forum.

If you actually took out the insurance before the warning was issued you are still covered, but in any case you are covered for other eventualities other than delay due to riot, such as getting sick, loosing your luggage etc.

You usually cannot buy travel insurance outside of your own country unless yopu actually buy travel in that other country, and why bother, if you got sick in Burma(for instance) why would you want repatriation to Thailand?

Hi,

Yes, I'm on an annual policy - which started in September 2009. So I assume, that still means they have to cover me?

Thanks

If your insurance policy was underwritten prior to all havoc in Thailand including the (Nov.2009 PAD movement), you should be covered. I would check with your insurer/insurance company for full detail, unless they amended a certain stipulation.

You will 100 percent not be covered.

The insurance company will claim you recklessly endangered yourself by still travelling..

As the holiday companies and airlines are offering refunds, you won't have a leg to stand on.

I read today that you will only be covered if you commenced your journey before the trouble started and anybody starting their journey now will find that the cover has been withdrawn. The only answer is to get confirmation or not direct from your own insurer.
