Mekong bridge ‘to be completed on time’

MUKDAHAN: -- A second bridge linking Thailand and Laos over the Mekong River will be completed on schedule by December next year, the Department of Highways insisted today.

Dismissing the fact that the project had already run into considerable delays, Mr. Narongrit Prompradit, the department's engineer responsible for the bridge linking Thailand's northeastern province of Mukdahan and Savannakhet Province in Laos, said that the delays were no more than ‘one percent’.

While admitting that there had been delays in the past, he said that the construction workers were now rapidly catching up, and that the bridge had now reached the middle of the river.

He also noted that construction on the Thai side of underground water, electricity and telephone wires had been completed despite earlier problems.

I just hope it brings more business and prosperity than the bridge in Nong Khai. The Laos authorities need to chill out a little.
