Thules
The (UK based) son of a friend of mine living here wishes to visit Phuket. In memory of his deceased mother, he wants to make a one day run up to the Big Buddha to raise money for the charitable organization, Cancer Research UK, and possibly some local hospitals / schools. Does anybody definitively know whether this run would constitute 'work' thereby requiring him to obtain a work permit before the event ? Would conducting a public charity fund raising event require any other licenses / permits from the police or other local authorities ? Thanks in advance. richardt1808
hi, Technically it is work, but the chances of any questions being asked at a charity event is practically nil, so I wouldn't worry about it. I know loads of folks who work at the Red Cross fair every year without any permits. Cheers

Soutpeel
And if you are still concerned, you could look at the option of the temporary work permit a.k.a. emergency WP, Valid for 15 days only. Personally dont think you would have any issues by not having one
Thules
Thanks for the replies. It did seem extreme that a work permit would be required for a 1 day charity event.
