:) I am a teacher in Mukdahan Province; I am changing schools this year.

We went to the Ministry of Labour also to The Thai immigration offices enquire how to renew my visa & work permit.

Labour office told us to transfer the work permit to the new school; this was started on the 21st of April, we took all of my documents to Immigration to confirm we were doing it the right way & what did Thai Immigration need.

The letter from the Thai Teachers Council of Thailand was needed to confirm that I am entitled to a temporary teachers license under their strict guide lines.

My school has been waiting for this document, so on Tuesday night I travelled by bus (10 hrs) got the standard letter for all immigration offices & Thai embassies on Wednesday night I travelled back to Mukdahan another 10 hrs trip back with all my documents in place.

I went to Immigration today Thursday to renew my visa as it expires on the 30th April.

Only to find that Im being charged with 8 days over stay plus the standard teachers council letter isnt any good? Mukdahan require the complete documentation the schools are given which the teachers council of Thailand have said will be at the school in two to six weeks as this is a busy time for them

So now I have been fined 4000 baht over stay & a big red stamp in my passport? Plus1900 baht for a 7 day extension because Mukdahan Immigration have said that my work permit was cancelled on the 21st.

The Ministry of Labour is quite shocked what has happened.

Also the Teachers Council of Thailand doesnt understand why their standard letter has been refused by Mukdahan Immigration.

I find 3 things that things I dont understand.

1. Even if the Ministry of Labour gave very bad advice and my work permit was canceled on the 21st .

I understand under Thai immigration law that I am entitled to 7 days free of charge to clear the problems or leave the country. So why was I charged over stay of 8 days at 500 baht a day?

2. The letter from the Teachers Council of Thailand not acceptable in Mukdahan when its a standard letter for all Thai Embassies & Thai Immigration posts?

3. As we have shown all documents & the way this was being done to Thai immigration to make sure we are doing this correctly why now is it so badly wrong?

As a foot note.

At the start of this we asked MoE what was needed, we were told, oh because its a private school & your only doing part time there you dont need a work permit or B visa!!!.

On hind sight maybe it is better to work illegally & dont get screwed by Immigration for trying to be legal.

If you overstay, they disregard the grace period and fine the full amount. Normal.

Immigration had the documents from the start incuding the labour office docs. no menstion of your w/p is cancelled from the 21st.

But thanks for the imput motto77

too many inconsistencies lies within the Thai government agencies - I think the Mukdahan immigration agents are

untrained in terms of 'other ministry documents' - so they just play dumb. (which they are).

Have you looked into hiring a local Thai immigration attorney (Laywer)?

This has come up before about the way Thai Immigration Mukdahan I understand the govnor hauled them over the coals over the way falangs are treated by them.

Thanks for the imput rfukata

Changing jobs always result in problems. The main problem is that you have a window of seven days only. During that window you have to get a work permit with your new employer. Often the work permit is valid for a few days only. It can be done but you need full cooperation of the Labour Office. That is why job-changers are often advised to go to a Thai Embassy or Consulate to apply for a new non-immigrant B visa.

What several Immigration Offices want to see is a teacher license exemption certificate or the teacher license exemption letter. Both exemptions state the school's name and the teacher's name.

The immigration office refuse to accept teacher license exemption letter they only want teacher license exemption certificate.

Guess someone needs to pay for the new immigration offices they opened last week.

All the speeches about community sprirt & we are one happy community how there there to help :) .

Good advise in the future aidenai thanks I hope others read this.

There is no more 7 day grace period, you can get an 'extension" of 7 days, but will have to pay for it. Since you didn't went to get the extension you were on overstay.
