Ferries From Koh Tao

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

We’ll be visiting Koh Tao in June. We had a question about the ferry from Koh Tao to Surat Thani. It would appear that the latest ferry arriving in Surat Thani from Koh Tao is at 16:30, in which case we would miss our 15:30 flight.

Are there other alternatives?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Haiku

Dont rely on them being on time. You could get an earlier ferry and spend time in Surat Thani or come Koh Samui for a night and get the morning ferry to Surat Thani.

Avoid the day after full moons parties, all ferries are packed with european yuppies that havent had a shower for three days, all smashed out their heads, snotting, fliching, stinking,

prefer the old wooden ferry( : night ferry) over any other option ( provided it still exists) ; other companies haven't been over-concerned by safety . The morning arrival in Surat is very " National Geographic was there "; then you gotta wait for the train all day long( or your plane at 15) , avoid waiting by the station , try staying by the harbour instead . A three-day delay because of weather is a possibility , forecasts can be studied before leaving .Allow for one day at least.

If you have a tight schedule, fly to Samui then have a marine national park tour.

Thanks All,

We may do the long trip from Koh Tao to Surat Thani and just stay there 1 night.

Our how bout this scenario; catch the ferry from Koh Tao to Chumphon, then do the 3.5 hour bus down to Surat Thani. Is that feasible? Do the buses go often? We’re trying to stay 1 extra day at the beach.

Hi Folks,

Thanks for the info and recommendation on the ferries. To play it safe, we’ll keep a day open and have a stop over in Donsak and stay in Surat Thani for the night. We’re looking at the Diamond Resort for the night.

Thanks again,

Haiku

What ever you do do not stay @ Southern Star hotel down town Surat (Big nightclub next door) Had a very wierd night there 2 years ago with my Thai GF. Full apparitian GHOST appeared in the room and tryed to attack my GF. Hand print bruising appeared on GFs breasts and bite marks on her legs. Scared the bejesus out of us. If you have Thai friends ask them about their experiences with spirits in LOS will set the hairs on the back of your neck to freakout.
