The Funny Things The Farangs Say!

Featured Replies

One of the stupid things i used to say when i started to learn Thai was when ordering a coke or something and wanting ice i would order coke naam kii instead of coke Naam keng. Thats water sh1t not ice lol. Just kept getting confused between the 2. Mind you you realise pretty quick from the look on the waitress face when you got it wrong.

You really can't blame us for making language mistakes here, after all it is not the easiest language to learn!

I also cringe for the guys who say "oh my buddah" or even worse make exaggerated attempts to wai or lower their heads around innapropriate people.

as for the guy who asked can you buy land here, he was probably asking if farangs can buy land not Thai's.

On a related note, i lived for a number of years in sunny Sumatra before I came here and recall my ex girlfriend deep in a conversation in Bahasa/Hokkien shortly after I arrived.

She kept saying "Bule" this and "Bule" that. After a while I interupted and asked "what is Bule", she thought for a moment and said "you, you are Bule"

"Oh", said I "what does it mean, is it bad?" She laughed and said "not at all - it means white shit".
