Time after time; we read, gossip, remark, complain about Thai culture. Of course, some more than others. Often sarcastic, barbed comments about the people and the place we love. Is it a 'love hate' thing? Are we professing our superiority?

Being wed to a Thai, I can be honest enough to say.....there are elements of thinking and social posture that I will never understand or come to terms with. I suppose it's understandable. Yet, during my years in Thailand, I met a good deal of people who had an almost pathological hatred of Thai ways.

i think its worth mentioning that this is an expat forum and so people probably come here to let off steam...

I always have a slight sigh of relief when i land back in AUS for some reason or another... last time i was there i REALLY got sick of the old Issan songs some of the older people liked to blast... there was always some old lady with a Karaoke box who sounded like she was strangling a cat...

I miss Thailand for all sorts of reasons but like any other country, there is always the good and the bad. I think its important to keep things in perspective... Make sure you always see the glass as half full, if you cant manage to do that, Go home.

I mostly think that the real Thai haters are the foolish souls who come here and buy all the smiles and other BS as meaning what they would mean in the West. They like to think the Thais think they are special and when they finally realize that it is not true, they become consumed with self-righteous anger and bitch and moan about it until they - hopefully - go home. The only problem is new suckers are arriving all the time, so the rest of us never stop hearing the same old negative crap.

In general, I like Thai people, but they are just like everyone else - some good, some bad. It is our own expectations that can make living here a nightmare or a dream come true.

Pick up any newspaper any day and count the positive pieces in the news section but then, as the saying goes, no news is bad news.

Nowhere on this planet is perfect and life itself ain't perfect but a whinge or two on an anonymous internet forum doesn't actually hurt anybody and it's better than manning the barricades in Banfkok.

I totally agree with you, thats one of the reason I try to avoid Swiss People here, most of them moan all the time about what is bad here.

Now that said, I really wish they would start to build proper roads here in Pattaya and get thouse fxxxg telephone and power cables under the earth. Also this music blaring Pick ups are going on my nerves together with thouse insanely loud Advertisement Trucks ........... ohhh, did I mention I hate Bath Busses

O those were the days my friend... When me and my mates beleived we were total 100% walking, talking, drinking, dancing farang entertainment machines and believed it was because we were so good at it.....

dam_n, now i know it was just for the 1500 baht ! Duh !

Now the paint has dried is a little dull and started to peel at the edges....I like to have my own little whinges about Heaven on Earth.....

These days i prefer to be the anonymous farang as i know the adulation is only superfluous. But boy did I enjoy it while it lasted...

Most of the Western whingers have caused the problem themselves but without realising it...by squandering money and sitting in too many bars for far too long and living the fast fun life with the girls of the night...and then waking up hungover and fleeced again forcing another trip to the ATM.... !

Then the second phase of whinging is the everything is poor quality..why cant they recycle...why can't they make / fix things properly..etc...

Don't know if there is a 3rd whingers phase as i have been stuck on phase two for a long time now...

Like when you open a thread that you know will be full of vile spleen, and something incenses you to the point of spontaneous refutation; and go back to the main forum board and think "What kind of an arse would bump a thread like that back to the top..."

News usually reports bad stuff anyways crimes, disasters, sickness, diseases, etc. even in western news. Its pretty refreshing on this forum (esp. the general section) to get away from all the bad stuff. There is good and bad in everything, a news paper or a news report just doesnt report it.
