How many times can you apply for a tourist visa? Once you have applied for the maxium number of tourist visas what is the length of time before you can apply for a new visa of any type. Is there another type of visa that you can apply for immediately after using up the maxium number of tourist visas.

Thank you

ok ok. depends on

  1. where your comming from
  2. what side of the bed the guy who is stamping your visa woke up on
  3. whether you flew in or walked
  4. whether the government has changed it again
  5. what border you are crossing
  6. what nationality you are

etc etc etc.

This web page is called Thai Visa, if you look at the top of the home page and put your mouse over the words that say "non immigrant visa" then click on Tourist visa, you should get a general idea.

As of yesterday Tourist visas are issude free for the next year. Some boarders have been noted to give out 20 or more back to back tourist visas while others have banned people from re-entering after just 3. Mae Sai in the north is the best right now for your 15 day walk in extension visas where as Vientiene Laos is good for the 60+ day visa.

Right now the government is so unstable and not really concerned with tourists it seam that they have not set any real solid law on this.

Sorry but my reccomondation above using the TV Tourist visa link is a little out of date (only by 2 years).

Its pretty much hit and miss these days. I do reccommend not applying for a visa dressed as Bob Marley though. Dress polite and show respect you will have a better chance.

The law did say one year ago that after 3 back to back 60+ day visas that you need to leave Thailand for 90 days before you can re apply but.......

There is no magic number as to how many tourist visas an embassy/consulate will issue. Any embassy/consulate has the right to refuse to issue any type of visa if they do not believe the purpose for which the visa is being requested is genuine. Maybe if you provided a few more details including your nationality, current location and travel plans we can provide some suggestions.

1) Borders do not issue visas, only embassies/consulates do.

2) Official land border crossings will issue 15 day visa exempt entry if from a qualifying country (but note the Op is talking about tourist visa entry and not visa exempt entry).

3) There is no restriction on the number of times you can enter Thailand, but at 4 back to back visa exempt entries may well be questioned by immigration.

4) The 90/180 day rule was scrapped in Dec-08.

Excuse me for not being aware of so many hidden, obscured, and mysterious requirements. Yes more detailed is a good idea. First of all it is a 90 day tourist and not the 30 or 15 day visa, I am interested in. I am American and my current visa runs out soon. I would like to stay as long as I can at least for another 6 months. I was hoping I could get two 90 day tourist visas (60 days extending it for another 30 days). I am not interested in the marriage or retirement visa but might consider it in the future. How about an education visa. What is required for that type of visa?. I am guessing because of the way things are done here in Thailand it can change from day to day but there must be somewhat of a standard way of doing things.

Double entry tourist visa from Vientiane will, with extensions and a border run in the middle, give you nearly 6 months stay. Apply morning Day 1 and collect afternoon Day 2. Phnom Penh recently started issuing double entry tourist visas again, but unsure if will continue during new 'free visa' promotion period (no reports in yet, but double entry tourist visa issue was curtailed during previous 'free visa' promotion period).

Can study on tourist visa, but if planning on being here for longer period single entry Non-ED visa from embassy/consulate abroad and then extend permission to stay every 90 days at Thai immigration with school paperwork is an option. You would need paperwork from the school to support Non-ED visa application. Or make a trip to Perth for 12 month multiple entry Non-O visa on the basis of visiting friends, taking with you signed copy of ID card/passport of Thai friend. Would have to do border run every 90 days; do final border run just before visa expires for new 90 day entry stretching visa to 15 months.

The best thing to do is ask at a Thai Embassy or consulate, Different Embassies & Consulates operate on slightly different guidelines, if the last Tourist visa they gave you has a red stamp at the bottom saying "Permitted to get visa at RTE (name of Embassy/Consulate) this time only" then you can't get another TR visa after that one unless you leave the country for 90 days minimum or get a Non Immigration visa they say its to make sure you're not working illegally on repeated Tourist visas. If you want an ED visa go to a school Language or Muay Thai are the most popular, depending on their policy you'll probably have to sign up and possible prepay for a certain time in full 1st or at least leave a deposit, they will prepare the paperwork for an ED visa then its just a case of spending a long w/e in Laos taking in the Embassy on a couple of occasions. Non Immigrant Visas are valid for 90days each
