Armoured Vehicles, Army Live Bullets Will Be Used To Surround Red-Shirts From 6pm

obviously some soldiers are on the same side than Red Shirts. The situation may spiral out of control this week end... the risk of a civil war relies on some army units and UDD decisions.

Some soldiers on the red side? Wow that is news, next you'll be telling us that a rally will be held a Rajaprasong intersection. Well we can surely count on the UDD to make some poor decisions over the weekend, and we can probably witness the army seize defeat from the jaws of certain victory and some foolish people will wander on down to Silom and get a rock in the head for their trouble.

it is well known that some military units remain in province and are not involved because they are not "sure" up to the grade of Commanders.... it is also a reason why Anupong is very reluctant to strong measures.... We will see soon what is happening: I am not an actor, just a witness....

I just read why there is no large exit wound in S. D.'s head, the bullet exited through his neck which makes me think the angle is from pretty high up. I read earlier on this forum that the shot came from a hotel room.

Did they give you the room number and hotel name too? Seh Daeng was short, so maybe the angle was affected by that too, maybe he was shot by a red guard who was six feet tall standing behind him. Can't take info in this forum as gospel.

got it from TAN. Maybe he was bowing for that angle of entry. I said, "makes me think...". I never stated my suppositions as fact. Why the sarcasm?

Have no idea who is responsible for the shot that got 'Rambo', but the man interviewing him, said "I heard a shot and then Sea dang went down" plus the doctor says a bullet was removed for his head. Velocity of a rifle round is much faster than the velocity of sound from that point, most high velocity rounds used, would leave a entrance and exit wound, although not always. Just some truths for all the whodunits.

Must be a red shirt terrorist , to keep in line with the BS here :)

BTS cease stops at seven terminal stations near UDD rally

BANGKOK, 14 May 2010 (NNT) — The BTS skytrain will avoid pulling over at seven terminal stations near the anti-government demonstrations at the Ratchaprasong intersection today to ensure safety of passengers.

According to Bangkok Mass Transit System (BMTS) executive Dr Anut Apapirom, the BTS that has operated since 06.00 hrs will not be stopping at Sala Daeng, Ratchadamri, Siam, National Stadium, Chidlom, Ploen Chit and Nana stations.

To facilitate convenience to regular users of the skytrain, Dr Anut said that Sukhumvit line in operation is divided into two routes, from Mo Chit to Ratchathewi and from On Nuch to Asoke.

For the Silom line, the BTS will run from Wongwian Yai to Chong Nonsi station. The closing hours of the BTS is yet to be determined, Dr Anut said. Yesterday the BTS skytrain had continued service until midnight with the exception of Ploenchit, Chidlom, Siam, and Ratchadamri stations, which closed at 18.00 hrs.

For more information, the BTS hotline can be reached at 02- 617-6000 or 02-617-7300 EXT 1834-1841.

Malaysia is much more democratic now then it was under Mahatir .

Recent yes but seems working .

Yes, same for Indonesia post-Suharto. You don't put an asterisk next to democracy just because it's not textbook. I'm American and we often cite our history of democracy. We don't refer to the eradication of the Indian nations or a century of slave-holding or another century of Jim Crow-style oppression as a time that proved that we couldn't handle democracy culturally or racially or whatever, we just view it as a time when we were fundamentally wrong about how to administer our democracy (really, really wrong in one of the worst ways possible) and during which we were evolving. We're still evolving and our democracy is still imperfect. Everyone's is. You don't slap bookends on any given moment and announce that democracy can't work for that society because it's not textbook perfect at this moment. It's social and political and economic change, it takes time.

Thaksin condemns recent violence

BANGKOK, 14 May 2010 (NNT) – Deposed Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has denounced the recent violence in Bangkok on Thursday night, including the ambush plotted against Major General Khattiya Sawasdipol, alias 'Seh Daeng’.

Writing via his twitter, Thaksin condemned the use of military forces and heavy weapons against protestors of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) once again by the government, leading to deaths and injuries of people.

The former prime minister also indicated that he had talked to Khattiyar Sawasdipol, the daughter of Major General Khattiya, who was waiting for her father in front of the operation room. He said he complemented her to be as strong as her father.

Major General Khattiya was shot at his head on Thursday night while he was giving interviews to foreign journalists amid the gun attacks at Sala Daeng Intersection and is now recovering from this serious brain injury at Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Medical College and Vajira Hospital.

According to the report of the Erawan Center, one death and 11 injuries were reported from the violence on Thursday night.

Thaksin also warned UDD protestors and guards to beware of drinking poisoned coffee, along with the infiltration of strangers into the rally site of Ratchaprasong Intersection.

Twenty-one UDD supporters were reported to be recently hospitalized after drinking poisoned coffee.

The ex-prime minister ended his twitter message that reconciliation could not be done just only verbally but must be made with mercy and sincerity.

Now it really turns out that Thai army in totally inefficient!

How can they be "trapped"?

Also, hearing the reds leaders talking about retaliation makes me feel that Thai army might not last long....

This is pathetic.

It's like an old John Candy movie. Hey - maybe that's what it is- they're just filming it all as part of a new Teng or Kohtee comedy?

Yep. Coup now! Sad to say, but Thailand was very stable after the 2006 coup.

Who is going to commit a coup? Who would it benefit? What difference would it make?

Anupong doesn't seem interested in a coup, otherwise he would have shut down the protests weeks ago.

The only ones that would be interested would be those on the red side, and I think they would hit some pretty serious opposition.

I don't know. They all seemed to get it together in 2006. I know Anupong is looking at retiring in the fall. Surely he has a successor. He's a lame duck a this point. Surely there is someone who will be taking his place.

you getting close to why the reds want parliament destroyed so elite cannot get their man in anupongs shoes.

might get a thaksin in charge at this rate! spreading all over the place now if you watch real news feeds and not just PAD propaganda on here.

I watched TNN late yesterday evening and last night. I twice saw a clip that appeared to show an entrance wound on the right temple; that clip is no longer being shown. It appeared to be almost perfectly round, which would indicate that the shot was fired at approximately the same height as S.D.

The doctors reported that the bullet entered from the right temple and ended at the left temple. To do that, the angle of trajectory would have to be flat, not from a great height - or bounced off the jaw up to the temple, which is highly unlikely. In any case, there was no exit wound, based on the surgeon saying that they removed the bullet.

TAN reports the bullet exited the left side of his neck

In the less stressful than bombing and shooting news comes the multiple meaning headline:

Lubricant consumption affected by political deadlock

BANGKOK, 14 May 2010 (NNT) – Thailand’s lubricant consumption is likely to reduce in the second quarter of 2010 as a consequence of the ongoing domestic political impasse, according to the Shell Company of Thailand.

Shell Thailand Board Director, Pisawan Atchanapornkul, stated that the use of lubricants among Thai consumers had decelerated in the second quarter of this year, especially in April 2010.

The consumption dwindled by 10% of the overall market.

As elaborated by Ms Pisawan, use of vehicles, particularly public vans, in some major tourist attractions of the country, such as Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, and Nakhon Ratchasima, has been decreasing during the mass protest of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) in Bangkok.

As a result, the national lubricant market will receive negative effects, and its growth may slow down if the rally of the UDD continues.

Still, the consumption may turn to expand in the latter half of 2010 if the political tension is relieved.

The director reported further that the use of lubricant of the kingdom in the first quarter of this year increased by 6% year-on-year.

The company expected that lubricant consumption for 2010 would stand at 450 million liters.

Prediction;

Either an implosion of the red leadership and they will agree to some form of backdown as they are already clearly divided or at 6pm tonight martial law will be declared beginning at 9pm with full curfew, tanks by midnight.

Get your grocery shopping done early.

I agree with that for the most part. Problem is, the current situation has no political way out. It must be a military way out. As much as I hate to give him credit, that pr1ck in Dubai is responsible for most of this. I'm no fan of military governments. on-on makes a good point.

See the 2000 US elections. The difference is people didn't take over Washington DC. Granted it got pretty stupid. But in the end it was settled by the courts and we ended up with a stupid redneck for 8 years. (disclaimer I voted for him) Life moved on. I am sure democracy can work for Thailand, just not in this current environment. This situation needs military intervention.

If the red's win the next election, you can bet the PAD will pull something again. And it goes on and on and on.

Military rule is the right thing for Thailand at this point. If nothing else, for a cooling off period.

Well, on the serious side he pulled back on his offer because the red shirts didn't give him an answer. The army is making him, the whole government and Thailand look ridiculous on the world stage. On the other hand, they are making the Italian WWII forces look good!

I don't know why I even bother responding to you. He said leave by this date and we'll have elections on Nov. 14. They didn't leave. So no election date. Pretty simple.

Abhisit won't last until November. This is too bad because he is competent and capable .... but he isn't corrupt and devious enough to last in Thai politics. He needs to have a few illegally obtained plots of land and a few shady fire truck or airplane or aircraft carrier purchase deals under his belt before the police and military will respect him ...

Yes this is what worries me about the coup idea. At first it seems a perfect settlement

1) Two sides arguing over when to call elections are replaced by a Government that doesnt plan to hold them

2) Two sides arguing over who is the legitimate democratically elected leader is replaced by someone who everyone agrees is not.

The problem though is that this farce has shown how completely incompetent the military are. To have them actually run the country would be comical.

The early election proposal was the quid pro quo for the rally dissolution. The Red Shirts reneged on the rally dissolution and have instead decided to "fight to the death". Over what is anyone's guess. Mine being an overthrow of the government and installation of a despotic regime, Red Sirt style.
