Armoured Vehicles, Army Live Bullets Will Be Used To Surround Red-Shirts From 6pm

From Bangkok Post: Live ammunition would be used - fired into the sky to scare away attackers, to protect the lives of security personnel, and to shoot armed assailants.

Sure is good thing that the bullets are not dangerous when fired into the sky and don't come back down at dangerously high volocity. Also all those high buildings in the area shouldn't be a problem with those bullets shot into the sky. The laws of physics don't seem to apply to Thai bullets. The government also seems to have its fair share of idiot leaders. Shoot straight down into the ground or roads, you idiots!

Bullets won't bounce of the road mate?

Indeed, it would be a higher casualty rate from that... :) morejunk tries to be clever...

I got told that the falling down bullets are no problem at all, just hurt a little bit. That they are dangerous is just a rumor. I myself don't know.

when shooting on the floor they might bounce back?

Logic states that a bullet shot straight up in the air would come back down slower than it went up. That is, for example, a bullet shot straight up at 5 m/s, would come back down and hit the ground at 4 m/s.

A bullet shot at an angle (ie above the protesters heads) would travel a longer distance before hitting something (unless it hit a high building ofcourse!), therefore it would be travelling slower.

In either case, this doesn't mean that they wouldn't cause death or injury.

Falling bullets DO kill people. There was a story on Thai news a while back of a young child killed from a falling bullet while he was swimming in a swimming pool.

anyone know how many red shirts left at protest site

Here you will see a photocollection showing the Rajprasong protest area. It is updated with many new photos nearly everyday. The latest update is from yesterday. Make your own estimate on how many people are there.

From what I have seen a few hours ago it's about similar today. At this time there are usually less people on the street and most are still sleeping in their tents and under the shadows of the bts tracks, condominiums, hotels and shopping malls. Usually after 5pm the people start to get up and you will see many more on the street.

If I have got time today I will shoot some more photos and upload them.

Have a good look at all those people! These are the people the army will point their guns at.

Ratchaprasong

I'm just here to show. Photos tell more than a thousand words. I'm not here to discuss politics and I will not answer any comment.

Thank you for the photos and for showing us the true faces of the "terrorists". :)

I see, you would put your three year old daughter in the line of fire of a murdering yellow fascists army? Would you dress her in red and tell her Jutaporn is the way of the future? Let her sleep on the streets and wash in the fountains to support your political cause?

I think you would.

Calling the parents stupid justifies the army using live bullets against children and women?

Calling people stupid is probably a factor in the equation that got us to this point in the first place.

It doesn't justify it, but they can't complain if they are injured.

Children have 'NO' place at any form of protest or demonstration. One certainly would not have people with diminished 'mental' capacity (ie: mentally handicapped people) at these types of deomonstrations either, some might argue here we have them running it. :)

why???

If I protest against shark fining or something similar peaceful, why not take the children?

I certainly would n't be inclined to call these people terrorists. Ignorant, hapless human shields, maybe.

It's the ones with spears and guns that are the terrorists, and their leaders. Human shields have been used by all sorts of despicable leaders like Saddam Hussein. The army will gladly put any of those unarmed protesters and put them on a bus and send them home. Not too late. Unless you're hoping your dead children will qualify for Thaksin's death bonus. People who follow the red leaders while endangering their own children might not be terrorists, just terrible parents.

Tallforeigners picture are well chosen propaganda pictures of peaceful red shirts, old people, monks and whats make me so sad, small children, who have no choice of their own to be in the red fort. This is the people the red leaders and Dear Leader wants to fight to the death, because of the selfish aim of the leaders. I say shame, shame, shame, one thousand times shame on you!!!!

If you want sharks to look fine I don't see the problem. Just don't blow a shark mating whistle. If you don't see the difference between this protest and one protesting the fineness of sharks then maybe you would qualify as an unfit parent too.

TALLFOREIGNER

can you give me some info on where to get bodyguard services in your area?

i would like to visit the RED retirees

i am also interested in kickboxer macho type avatars for my TV account

any idea where i can get a good one?

the reds came of their own free will with the intention to break the law, create a violent atmosphere and overthrow the government

now if they wish, they can leave of their own free will and for the general masses it seems without any charges being brought

so they can step out of the cross hairs anytime they want and get a free ride home and a nice shiny new ID card

its a choice thing.

its no use crying afterwards if you make the wrong choice............

Couldn't find any of the red guards to photograph? No pictures of the barricades? Only want to show children and old people to get sympathy? Well those old folks and those with kids are free to leave the area no one but the red thugs are stopping them. Putting your children in this situation with a crackdown looming is child abuse. In the west we have laws to protect children from parents like those.

If any child is killed with the fact their parents have put them on the front line

The parents are guilty of negligent homicide

Why can't we have a free and fair election with the red leaders in jail? [/quote

Legitimacy.

The Reds, like all other major groupings, must perceive the next election as free and fair. That is the only way to get them, and all other groups, to regard the outcome as legitimate and thus voluntarily accept the outcome.

Many posters here are talking about a coercive outcoming: military rule, Singapore style governance, and then of course there are the bitter loons who cant wait for (thai) blood to spill.

What i'm arguing for is a non coercive outcome: where groups of people voluntarily set aside differences to reach an acceptable of social harmony. That cannot in my judgement by achieved if those who symbolize the hopes and aspirations of one important group are incarcerated. What is important here is not what you or i think of the Red leaders or the Reds themselves. What is important is to bring the Reds back into the political process.

To do that, you have to consider how they think, and what they value. You wont lure the Reds back into the political process--including accepting an unfavorable election outcome as legitimate--if you insult them by incarcerating their leaders. You wont get them to accept an unfavorable result if they think that their chances were held back by goverment coercion.

It may well be that the choice is either between an amnesty, or--sooner or later--wide spread violence. I think Abhisit and the generals are wise men and fundamentally understand this. They have to negotiate the political narrows between extremely opposed groups who both feel that their interests area being trampled upon, with potentially horifying consequence if the govnerment get it wrong. Abhisit et al are wise to understand that time, and gentle pressure are their greatest assets.

If, in fact, this matter does end with elections widely perceived in Thailand as legitimate, Abhisit will deserve and get the Nobel Peace prize. He, and the Thai people, will have done for this country what Gorbachev, Yeltsin, and the Russian people did for theirs.

But we arent there yet. And if the armored vehicles now being discussed move on Ratchaprasong, I fear we never will.

Mah friend, mah friend, mah friend!

You are such a sweet and gentle person, I'll bet that you've seen "Bambi" 20 or 30 times and cried every time?

Time for the real world! The red shirt leaders are in no mood for a compromise either physically or politically! Their paymaster is in this to the knife...if he fails (if they fail) then he has lost "face" big time...the government will go after him with an axe, they'll take everything off him as he will be seen as a loser...he MUST be seen to WIN!

This is not a game for "pussy's", these guys are tough, very tough and they don't care how much "other people's " blood they spill. The government is well aware of the price of failure!

Keep reading "Gandhi" and watching the tele. Muse on the inhumanity of some people and how their eternal souls are doomed! :)

Priceless!

many go to be a monk because there isn't a lot of work for them. if there's no work for their sister, she goes to work in the bar.

you see a lot of people in all religions not living the life

they aren't following the principles accepting bribes and selling their soul for money. even if they're not there for money, shame on their ignorance and poor reflection.

Or their beloved leaders sleeping in air conditioned hotel rooms who knowingly put the lives of women and children in danger in order to avoid the consequences of their own cowardly actions.
