They don't take money, most of them are very serious not to be corrupt. What you suspect is something else. Since the time I moved to Thailand, I have payed tea money for no helmet and seat belt hundred of times, but in the last 3 or 4 years I have had to go to the police station to pay the fine. I have a Thai family member that is a policeman and he is telling me that the new police recruits have no interest in bribes and that police integrity and professionalism is what the Thai police want the world to see. Yes there are still many fat cat police working the system and making their tea money but I think that when it comes to potential high profile cases the police are more interested in the lime light.
