Bank Passbook Savings Account - Closing Them

Does anyone know if banks penalise you for closing a passbook savings account? Any charges involved to close them?

I recently had two savings accounts with Kasikorn Bank, I asked the staff how I could close one of them. He simple told me to withdraw all the Bath but just leave in the 22 stang (100 stang equal 1 Baht). He said the bank would automatically close the account after 6 months. This I did. (Just destroy the ATM card).

I closed my BBL sav acc last year without any charges. They even computed interest to the closing day. But you have to do it at the branch where account is opened.

As the poster above said, just withdraw all the money and destroy the passbook and card. No need to visit your home branch.
