So sorry, its the fault of the yellows for giving the reds the idea!!!!! How stupid of me!!!! The protesters had the extreme actions planned before they even set foot in Bangkok - See the link to Arisman and 1 million petrol bombs on previous posts. The government did try to take reasonable action - Televised negotiations, a road map for peace, house dissolution and fresh elections, the voice of the protesters and their grievances were heard loud and clear. But they always wanted more. Was the solution allow the reds to stay indefinite?? A forceful removal was the last resort and it was eventually the only option open to the government. I think you have a very deluded view of this if you are trying to pin the deaths of the people on the shoulders of the government. Jatuporn et al in their nightly speeches were encouraging people protesting to fight to the death. Some of them unfortunatly listened to him.

One day the responsible persons will be punished.

In Argentina 82 year old general Reynaldo Bignone was recently sentenced to 25 years in prison for crimes against humanity he ordered some 30 years ago.

A lot of western countries not only sue child abuses committed in foreign countries, but also human rights violations committed in foreign countries.

Several people responsible for the genocide in Rwanda were arrested, convicted and imprisoned in Belgium.

Defense: We were protecting the country

Exhibit A: the Arisman video - no need to say which one

Exhibit B: the tape of the three stooges immediately refusing the PM's offer of early elections and dissolution at the conference table.

Exhibits C, D, E.... photos of "the kid", the weapons stockpile, the arson, the guy firing the handgun, the guys firing homemade rockets

Case not even considered- laughed out of court

Many people who one day were “untouchable” had to face reality (and democracy) later on.

Somebody who studied at Eton and Oxford should know better; the other ones I can still understand.

Even a dog is better than anyone who has the idea to support for the military attack.. I believe this government can do whatever they can .. even to kill people.. what is the worst scenario than this which made the RIOT in the country.. a riot can be formed anytime in any country if the government dont know how to handle it..

Lemon 123 on his way to a banning. Lemon 124 waiting in the wings?

No worry.. whatever lemon** will be disappeared after tonight and sit back at home to watch the show in thailand.. there are so many elite people who claims themselves so supportive for the government military action.. everyone who got this idea is really a phantom killer with full of blood

I see no any "military attack". US "operation in Iraq in reply to someone's mined and destructed a couple of bldgs in NY" - is the military attack.

Here I see the only soldiers following the gov's order to keep country's internal peace.

See the difference, if you got any eyes wide open.

You are believed right. The government actually HAS a right to kill people. Reactively (executions in law) or proactively (under SOE) for example.

You're funny. Try to "stage a camp" at Times Square, or at Ho Chi Minh lane, or at Tianganmeng Square, or Red Square, or Ginza - and see what you'll get.

Ever heard about "gov's permission to protest" at the desired location within desired timeframes? :)

Some (many) of posters here on Thaivisa seem close to having a coronary when they talk about Thaksin and having him arrested on charges of terrorism etc.

May I respectfully suggest that this is not going to happen. Like it or not, Thaksin was the elected PM of Thailand, and he was deposed in a military coup. Western nations are unlikely to arrest a man who was illegally deposed from his high office. That's very clear, judging by his shopping trips in Paris.

For the sake of your hearts, it would be better to consider how Thailand can learn from these terrible events, and how it can build a society that is fairer to all, where all sectors of society can play a role in building a stronger nation that respects the views of majorities and minorities, disenting and non-disenting (spelling?).

I've kept out of these threads for the past few days, because it's like a child's shouting match. With the exception of some valid and constructive comments, the discussions about the riots and Thaksin have been truly, truly pathetic.

If anyone needs them, I can suggest a source of heart pills.

Simon

Wouldn't early elections and implementation on the PM's roadmap have been a sensible path to reconciliation. I think the anti-Thaksin fanatics, and I admit I am one, are justifiably upset that the "roadmap" was agreed to and then reneeged on due to Thaksin vetoing it. The least that western democratic nations might do is stop providing him a base from which he may interfere in another country's internal affairs.

Now we're talking. Contrary to corruption charges, a lot of countries have the legal framework to arrest and extradite people wanted on terrorism charges. Thaksin can at least say bye bye to any first-world country for the foreseeable future - and maybe with a bit of luck see the inside of a jail cell very soon.

Strange request from DSI. What are the terrorist charges? DSI didn't say. Normally you would expect to see the charges. This has been the problem with this government. They always makes charges without stating evidence to support them. That is the biggest reason other countries are just ignoring anything they say. This kind of charge is just another reason that leads other countries' leaders to conclude this government is a joke. It would really be surprising if they even got any response for other countries.

Rant as the rabid folks here might be, legitimate countries and governments will want to keep their self respect.

I just wish there would be someone in this country that would actually do something for the good of the country - all the country, not just Bangkok - without first taking their “share” off the top. Good Luck Thailand.

A well thought-out, well-written and balanced post. Thanks.

Thaksin's transfers of assets and policy corruption are clear and obvious indicators of his corruption, and the consequences of his attempts to recoup his lost money, wield power and sow division are testament to his ruthless and evil, megalomaniac nature.

But I've not yet seen or heard any stories (proven or not) of Abhisit (or any of his cabinet) having their fingers in any pies. So far, it seems to me that he may be one of the rare few 'honest' politicians that are trying to 'actually do something for the good of the country' to keep it together as a whole. Or maybe I'm wrong. Does anyone have any tangible 'dirt' on the current govt? I mean independent/verifiable sources, not just anti-government/red propaganda.

Will we see less corruption in Thai politics in the years to come?! It'd be nice, but I won't hold my breathe.

This is about democracy and equal rights. Not Thaksin. You stupid stupid people.

It might have seemed that way and "democracy and equal rights" was the rallying cry but surely you must see that other agendas were there and whoever is pulling the black shirts' strings needs money and it seems fairly certain it came from Thaksin. The old communists and muslim separatists plus straight out hooligans looking for fun and profit with absolutely nothing else to gain are all now mixed into the pot and just what exactly are their demands ? Have they expressed any ? Is it about democracy and equal rights ? Please .....

Thai Government should get a Red Corner Notice against Thaksin from Interpol and his trial should begin asap

Do you think Interpol people are idiots ?

Would you appreciate a democratically elected Prime Minister being deposed by a military coup in your home country ?

Would you appreciate the main airports of your home country being seized for weeks by terrorists ?

Would you appreciate democratically elected Members of Parliament being unseated by some shady judges in your home country ?

Than it is up to the current [that time] government how they will deal about your action.

May I remind you kiddo a fact that "airport camp" had been established long ago prior to Abhisit? So why blame Abhisit than? Why not Prem, not Somchai, not Samak or even not Santa Claus?

What is the issue about Abhisit himself? The boy now tries to do his direct job. You have got some butthurt about what exactly? :)

Do I put any word to blame "Abhisit" on the airport hijacking?? Check it out and let me know.. I only blamed the current government who should take better action rather than kill the unarmed people in the city. Right now.. the city is full of blood.. and fire.. consequence of the government's good decision..

I see your point, but this is not that simple. As for democratically elected, the votes were paid for, I have friends in Issan and they explain this this way, if they come to your home and offer you money and you accept you are obliged to vote for the person who paid you. At least he was not trying to be elected for free but made the expense. This could be one way of looking at it. It obviously worked as a lot of people still like him.

start taking the properties as well, give them nowhere to stay, get em back here and make sure the world sees them for what they really are.

Knowing the Thai system, they will get bail and disappear like always, this time no bail, start getting confirmation beyond reasonable doubt that they were the ring leaders and associates, use those in custody and interrogate them till they spill the

beans, these <deleted> have ruined everything for the people they wanted to help, namely the poor and the farmers up North, whose products will not be required in Bangkok at shopping malls, cause they will be being rebuilt.

I don't get it how can a person, kick out as PM and still be a loud to cules so much confussion I don't understand it.

When confronted with rational arguments, follow the red cheerleader's mantra: "The yellows took over the airport, so anything we do is ok" :)

Now that the reds have done 100 times the damage the yellows did, I think that argument is going to have a LOT less traction.

The US might have been on the fence before, now they will be going out of their way to do the Thai government favors.

Its only so long before the US/Thai Government negotiates to have Thaksin extradited to Thailand during one of his 'vacations'.

The US understands that the current events are becasue of Thaksin and his history. Diplomatically though the have been very neutral, as they should be. However, Thailand is a strong strategic and trade partner and Thaksin a little drop in the bucket. If the Thais make a stong legal case and produced convincing evidence, I'm pretty sure the US would help out. After all, Thailand has helped catch some major terrorists and made a big dent in international arms smuggling. I don't think the US wants that to stop

he was in france last week end buying a louis vuitton bag for his daughter...

call sarkozy...

I am still not convinced he will be convicted or even arrested. They seem to be throwing out arrest warrants here and there.

Now Arisman has been arrested and transferred to Border Control Police (or something like that). We have seen just how inactive the police have been recently. Why wasn't he transferred to the military camp at Hua Hin together with the other leaders? I am sure he'll e out on bail tomorrow and out of the country within hours.

Edit Just seen that it's Naresuan border patrol police camp in Phetchburi

I agree, just shows money goes along way in many aspects for people and seeing the RED SHIRT LEADERS being arrested(giving them selves-up) "NO HANDCUFFS"and being treated as if they were going to get a slap on the wrist,or maybe a little chat with Taksins friends? I think this was some indication of how the present administration is trying very hard to stop this happening again any time soon? Only time will tell?It is all so very sad, lived here long time like many of you!!So Sad to see Bangkok burning in a very well organized piece of ANARCHY!Lets all hope this ends soon!!
