I am very much in favor of trying to help the poor and at first sympathized with redshirt wanting more voice in govt. and wanting their share of economy. However many things make me question lately what is the real reason for revolt. I live in muban where I am one of only 2 farang, yet I am perhaps the poorest person here. Everyone else is Thai and seem to be doing very well. They are what I would consider middle and upper middle class people. I have business in which majority of customers are Thai in same economic class. How can there be so many of these people if poor have no opportunity? Yes I am sure some or most have rich families but some I know have earned their status in business.

Also, in business biggest problem is finding people who really want to work. I give them opportunity to make as much money as they are willing to earn, yet some (not all) are not really willing to work all that hard. I know personally several young men who have graduated college and technical school yet lay around all day while their mother or some farang supports them. These young guys are all very strongly for redshirt movement, yet not so strongly in favor of work.

They say elites are running govt. here but is not this the way of the world everywhere? Obama may be black but he is still for sure one of the elites. Are not most of parliament and congress elites? Actually they are mostly lawyers, which is must worse if you ask me.

I am sure many of the poor are getting screwed by the rich, but I believe that Thailand has been making progress before the current mess. After all, Thailand is to Laos and Burma what US is to Mexico. Do not go to Laos and complain about the plight of the poor in Thailand.

I think many of the farang who are so strongly for redshirts are whipped by their wives. I am not saying this is always the case but perhaps in some, as I admit myself this is one of the reasons for my initial support of redshirts. All I am really saying is just look around you with objective eye and judge for your self what is the truth.

New money v old money.. One assumes the right to power and a position in the aristocracy. The other wants to be the aristocracy and will use the poor masses as it's route to power.

Refreashingly honest and well measured post. This line struck me.

"I think many of the farang who are so strongly for redshirts are whipped by their wives"

I think many farangs recieve much information about Thailand, from their significant others, which can be often misleading.

A look at the Thai Constitution could give a clue. But else it is a struggle about who will run Thailand in the future. Yellow has had the power for the last 100 years except 5 years and of course it is difficult suddenly to turn over the power to the others. That fight will last for years to come.

A post has been deleted, there are always those who fail to grasp the rules and why they are there.

In that light, I think this thread should be closed.
