A couple of terrorists

One down one to go!

I wonder if this photo was analyzed whether it would show that the left hand of Thaksin displaying a friendly gesture is actually PhotoShopped in. What are the chances that his actual right hand is really holding a dagger at the back of the late general? (smile not Photoshopped,.. that's a genuine fake!)

OK,.. call me a conspiracy theorist if you will but I have wondered whether the unfortunate late general ceased to be useful and perhaps he and his big mouth became a liability?

After all,.. Thaksin is an ultra slick Chinese-Thai businessman who knows that the objective of the ultimate game of profit is to eliminate all liabilities!

Relax guys, the PAD photos that the whole world have seen are part of the evidence that there are no courts in Thailand, just the lackeys of the Elite.

Outside of a few overheated thaksin haters in Thailand, a tiny part of evidence would be to contrast the reds processed by the courts and the PAD. Also contrast the media crackdown with the ASTV and Nation network spewing bile with the same lackeys consent.

The people of Bangkok are trying to forget there is a country outside of their stinking fetid city already. But with 90 dead, human rights groups (I work for one!) in 100% agreement that this is a failing regime using the full war aparatus against its people, there is more chance of a TAN journalist winning a pulitzer prize than Thaksin coming back in chains.

In a court outside Thailand, the evidence will be studied (probably to howls of laughter) and discarded. Sorry, but thats how free and fair justice systems work. I know it is shocking, but Abhisits masters will not be able to buy the european court of Justice.

Could you please tell us which Human Rights Group you work for, so that I can write an official letter of complaint concerning your conduct! If you work for a Human Rights group, why are you on here spewing your own political agenda on things. You seem to admire Thaksin. I would have thought if you worked for a Human Rights Group you would condemn the man fully for instigating some 2000+ extra judicial killings during his term as PM. How can your group hold any credibility in informing the international community of Human Rights abuse when you adopt such a clear political stance. It is why nobody will listen to you and your group and why the work you do is an utter waste of time and resources, because people like you destroy the credibility of your information.

Just a thought!

Red-shirt Leader Denies Terrorist Charges

A top red-shirt leader has denied charges of terrorism as he turned himself in to investigators today.

Chatuporn Prompan, a red-shirt core-leader and MP of Pheu Thai Party, joined by fellow party member Wichian Kaokum, met with investigators of the Department of Special Investigation.

The red-shirt chief has denied all charges against him, including crimes of terrorism. He told investigators that he will submit his written statement within 30 days.

Chatuporn's attorney, Karom Pontaklang, said that the terrorist charges against his client will be easily contested as the only evidence being used to support the charges have thus far been video tapes of speeches made by Chatuporn.

He elaborated that no fault can be found with Chatuporn's public statements as they were made at political rallies, not terrorist gatherings.

Chatuporn was allowed to leave after the morning's investigation, using his privilege as a member of the House of Representatives. Authorities handling his case have stated that they may seek a Senate ruling to detain Chatuporn, if there are signs he will flee.

[newsfooter][/newsfooter]

this is a good example how Thai police / DSI handle a case of terrorist !

what would you think if this is Mr T ? would he just sit there and accept what it is ?

So he was under the impression that it is ok to invoke people to do illegal things if you say these things at a political rally.

The astonishing logic of Thailand

That must be why Hitler got away with it then.

that is exactly the point. Thai court tried hard to get ALL these guys into a serious criminal charge as terrorist.

a big BUT here, the law deployment and implementation that relies on Thai police, they are remarkable weak on handing these cases !

Jatuporn already swings his tail and tries to get himself clean away from the charge. Mr T would do that in a much 'dirty' way.

this is not we want to see in Thailand neither.

The other English language newspaper notes that the court hearing was held behind closed doors and no one, not even reporters were allowed in to witness proceedings. A fact that the Nation failed to mention in it's report.

I suspect other countries will just see this warrant as the product of a kangaroo court and will simply ignore it. As Abhist says, it is just an internal matter after all.

I have wondered whether the unfortunate late general ceased to be useful and perhaps he and his big mouth became a liability?
Khattiya Sawasdipol spilled a few beans days before he was shot as well as on the actual day.

Here are some quotes from On guard at Bangkok's frontlines by Richard S Ehrlich, which was published just a few days before he was shot:

"On March 9, I was in Dubai and saw Thaksin and spoke with him, and [on May 3], I spoke on the telephone with him. I explained to Thaksin how the army committed murder on April 10, and how they are now bringing tanks and will do it again. I told him now we have to fight. They will shoot women and children. I also described the barricades here." because Thaksin is one of the reds' top leaders.
He said Thaksin told him on the telephone: "'Don't let a lot of people die. I don't want a lot of deaths. You have to hold back the army.'

"Thaksin has no idea about the tactics of fighting. But he's a nice guy."

Here is the interview some hours before he was shot: 'Who would dare to get me'

So I don't think it was the government who ordered the shooting, as they would have wanted to take him into custody for interrogation.

Not a good start. I wonder if they even have any intention of showing the evidence to any country that they approach to help with extradition.

Good God !!

Welcome back, interesting new username

Save your welcomes for Mr Thaksin when he comes back. From what I have seen today, all this junta grandstanding has done is put him back on the stage with the media printing and reporting his replys to the charges. I have not seen much of the man but today he is everywhere, on every tv channel, every news forum, every newspaper. Many mentions of the coup, Abhisits none electability and the Elite control of media, courts, army and politicians.

It wasn't even a good try, it was just another ill thought out desperate attack on a popular politician.

Welcome to my world

Oh my, another "newbie" that has all the information and facts to backup his or hers' ridiculous post! I suppose your hero is Che Guevara? Maybe you should move to The Peoples Republic of China and see what your human rights are there! Look up Thaksin's "human rights" records.

What world would that be? You are so misinformed. Why I am bothering responding to your total misunderstanding of Thailand. Never mind, as you seem to be lacking an understanding what has happened here. Populist politicians that buy power, you condone their actions? Amazing!

Uh oh. Thai police. Are those the same fellows who fraternize with people whom they know have warrants out for their arrest? Payap and his Red goons storming the hospital recently - comes to mind.
Are there going to be any plans by this government to overhaul the police force? The police truly have shown their incompetence and corruption during these historic times when they've been sorely needed to do their job properly.

A slight correction needed here. The Nation does not report, it regurgitates its masters propaganda.

It must work though as I hear people buy it still and watch their vile broadcasts.

Most countries will not just ignore it, they will laugh about it a lot and then ignore it. More wasted money and time from an increasingly vindictive ruling junta.

Army on streets in these numbers mean it is a coup. No credibility left at all with the Dems, but they have surrounded themselves with people who support them in the media so don't hear the alarm bells sounding.

Irrespective of the issues being discussed on here (can they do this to him, can they do that to him etc etc) I would just LOVE to be around to personally witness the enormous loss of face he will have to endure as each and every country, one by one, declines to allow him in.

Call me callous, vindictive or whatever you want, but his dispicible actions have driven my company to near ruin. I wish the same on him and his kind.

We live in interesting times. Night all.

cut the word terrorism and replace it with the word "COUP"

As I recall, nobody got hurt in the coup and people were giving soldiers flowers in the street. The yellow shirts didn't hurt anyone in their protest either. How many people have died or been maimed at the hands of the redshirts? How many grenade attacks and shootings?

The comparison of the coup to terrorism is ridiculous, particularly since the coup was partly conducted to avoid violence.

correct! it took 4 years (yes thais are slooowminded) to the people to realize they've been a$$<deleted>**ed.. but once they understood... (see the last 3 months)

incorrect. police officers who dared to attempt to push them away from the prime minister's office compound (august 2008) has been injured (and some hospitals in bangkok refused to heal them)

oh please, be serious, i'm not thai, not even a young boy....

anyway....

WHO'll take seriously an arrest warrant for terrorism issued by a country that repeatedly ignored an international court decision? (see the Preah Vihear Temple dispute)

In his blog in Swedens biggest newspaper their foreign "expert" writes:

"I also hear from various sources of information to suggest that the authorities keep track of the views of foreigners residing in Thailand. And intimidate those who sympathize with red shirts"

Anyone heard anything about this? I only heard about the brit and the aussie who participate in the rally

Would that be Planet La La?

So are you working with this 'Human Rights Group' because you have never been able to get a real job? Are you one of these angry drop out student types who never made it so you love to kick the establishment, any establishment? Huddle around a table with other people wearing combat jackets and silly hats planning the next revolution. Citizen burleychassis perhaps, or maybe Comrade is more preferable.

Every airport should be on the look out for him now and that private plane seized.

Thaksins days on the run are numbered :D

Yep, sure they are. Don't you worry, the first airport he lands at, he'll be arrested immediately and his airplane seized. Then they will deport him to Thailand straight away. No matter what country it is. Sure, of course. Yep. This arrest warrant just sealed the deal. No worries there, buddy.

:)

Yep ! your avatar says it all about you !

Thailand may have just shot themselves in the foot, I think Thaksin has a lot to answer for but now because Thailand has now charged him with terrorism which carries the death penalty countries like the UK will not extradite him or anyone else who faces a death penalty.

May be they do not actually want him back?

Here is the full 10 minute interview from the article Thaksin's lawyer documents army abuse of Red Shirts by Eleanor Hall on Thursday, May 20, 2010 12:14:00 from ABC News in Australia: Full Robert Amsterdam interview on ABC News 20 May 2010

Compare it with his interview shown on Al Jazeera on 17 May 2010:

Every time he is asked whether Thaksin is funding the protests, he says "the real issue is..." blah blah blah.

The guy is obviously a whore who would say anything since he's being paid. I love the reporter though, she asked the hard questions and kept asking them. That's why Al Jazeera trumps over CNN anytime.

and France, so they can clean up the terrorists in our suburbs as well.

There's a number of ways to look at this.

1) While the warrant was issued in Thailand, a lot of countries pretty much consider Thailand as not much better than some Banana Republics, and therefore not pay much attention to this warrant.

2) Even should they recognize it, that does not mean that if he were apprehended that the country which apprehended him, or even if it is Interpol, will be willing to extradite him, as many, if not most civilized countries will not extradite someone who faces a possible death sentence if returned to their country of origin which has issued the warrant.

3) While this undoubtedly place some "pressure" on him, it hardly stops him in his tracks, as there are still a whole list of countries who will still allow him to come and go freely, based on their own corruption, and his financial contributions to it.

In my opinion, bringing Thaksin back to Thailand would be a major mistake by the current government. That would put the hero of the Reds on their soil, and they would probably storm any prison or jail he was being kept in, or at least attempt to. And should he die, whether by true accident or something like a heart attack, while in custody, the entire world would be suspicious, and the Reds would truly rampage then. What we saw in BKK and the provinces with fires and arson would look like a Sunday picnic and this country would go up in flames.

To me, the best thing this government could do is make Thaksin a "non issue", stop putting him on the front page every day, and stop trying to blame everything on him. Make him a non entity that doesn't exist. They have themselves to blame, in some ways, for continuing to make him an issue. My advice to the government: "Forget about him and get on with business".

But, hey, to me that would make sense, and everyone knows that "sense" is something in seriously short supply of here.

Interesting post. I agree and think Thailand should erase him, no more mention of him and refer to him as irrelevant. This would be the ultimate punishment for an obvious egomaniac.

Erase? Like Seh Daeng?

Why not just call the A Team.

Love your comment,A Team :):D:D

Probably because the b4st4rd's disciples torched Central World and the fire service had to use the water to quell the flames.

Name one country or journalist with links that has called Frank Sinatra or the reds terrorists! They are a rabble run by a criminal, but terrorist is the wrong terminology. Once you call someone that, there is no recourse and u start to look very stupid when nobody (apart from the imbeciles on here) calls them that

:) at least THIS imbecile can get quotes right :D

Thaksin is wanted on charges of terrorism as of today. He's made "the list". Your opinion doesn't really matter :D

The government of Thaiand calls him a terrorist and Thailand is a strategic partner for many countries so at the very least they will prevent him from travelling to any of those countries. No other country HAS to call him a terrorist. They just have to say "Today, we have arrested Thaksin on a warrant issued in Thailand. The charge is Terrorism." They don't have to call him anything at all except a person wanted by the Kingdom of Thailand, a country they have an extradition treaty with.

He can be arrested in many countries on such charges but as many others have posted, extradition is a no go with possible death penalty involved. That being said if arrested he can be detained pretty much indefinitely on terrorism charges while the process unfolds. I believe countries in the EU hold candidates in capital cases while refusing extradition to the USA for the same reasons.

I don't think Thailand wants Thaksin back anyway if they can not kill him swiftly at this point. If he is sent back the recent problems will seem modest compared to what is in store. If Thaksin really had self disregard he would show up and turn himself in. If he did this the government would be in a pickle.

I would think the current government would love Thaksin to be arrested in a country that will not extradite. That is win win, Thaksin is arrested, no more twittering, no more media access. His ability to travel is gone and he is locked up with out charge outside of Thailand. He could spend years in a cell if that were to happen.

I am not sure why people use smug happy face emoticons in serious topics. It just seems uncalled for unless you like the abrasive approach.

The last time they tried to do their job properly (at the end of 2008) they were let down by piss-poor equipment and criticism by their peers. No surprise that they didn't want to get involved any more than they had to this time.
