Ulysses G.
You don't like it, but you keep going back to try different items, so you can complain on Thai Visa? There are a lot of restaurants in Bangkok. Why would you keep going back to a place that you don't like?
BugJackBaron
Oh my god, cafe fish is absolutely revolting and over priced. Dukes rocks just about every dish on the menu. Someone already mentioned chippy on soi 23, that's where you want to go. Scottish judgement? Guess only Scotts would care. ha ha ha. My reaction is just the opposite. I find the Duke's massively disappointing on virtually all their menu items. I will give it a wide berth. I know we have some devotee's - based I guess on their CM shop where maybe the owner has time to monitor what goes on. The Emporium Branch is really really second rate. I'm sure they'll do fine without my custom. Hey I'll back you powderpuff. Tried the burger for the second time - bland is the best I can say about it. Not going to waste money trying the fish and chips. Agree that quality western food in Bangkok is harder to find than in Phuket or Chiang Mai. Wossnext
Well that was an amusing read . Jeez I do miss the old fish n' chips from home and was wondering where to find some, this topic certainly gave me some ideas for places to try out. Particularly liked the comment about decent fish and chips being hard to find outside of Scotland! that's a good one, I guess that poster must have only left Scotland the one time, went straight to Thailand and has never been anywhere else lol. I'll back up the OP on Scottish fish and chips which in general are of far superior quality than I have tasted in other countries. Although you'd have to ask especially for cod in Scotland as haddock is usually served. Please don't flame me for the Scotland thing I realise there are great fish and chips elsewhere just I reckon you have a much better chance of finding quality in Scotland than other places. The place in Soi 23 is only to be attempted when pissed.

onethailand
Manhattan Seafood - Seacon Square Sheesh! That looks *nothing* like what they serve in Singapore. I certainly wouldn't recommend that... Edited June 9, 2010 by onethailand
CarlBkk
Manhattan's fish and chips are just too rich for my liking. Seems to have been cooked in cream. A few English pubs have ok fish and chips, namely O'Reilly's and Barbican. However, I've just noticed what looks like a higher end "serious" contender about to open opposite J-Avenue on Thonglor - a specialist fish and chips and whisky bar nonetheless! I'd never have thought of putting the two together! Will try the pla(i)ce.
p_brownstone
My wife and I went to Manhattan in Seacon Square for lunch yesterday. Not very impressed frankly - I had Butter Cod, my wife had Grilled Dory; portions were very small - which I believe is to cover the costof the Salad Buffet which is included in the cost of each dish. You can have just the Salad Buffet for Baht 149.- which is a good deal, especially for Thai's who tend to love Salads etc.. The fish was fresh but as I say the portions were not satisfactory - plus they serve in a "mini wok" type metal bowl which makes it rather difficult to actually eat your order. billd766
I went up to the Fish Cafe in the Emporium this afternoon and had the (imported Cod) fish and chips with garlic bread and an iced tea. For one person the price was high but the quality was good. I usually eat the fish and chips at the Bus Stop on Soi Nana and for me I still think that they are better value and more tasty but each to his own. Should you be unfortunate enough to be at an A&W do NOT order their fish and chip meal even at 71 baht as it is tasteless and unappealing.

CarlBkk
Many of the best chippies in the UK are run by Vietnamese. And not where I'm from either. All the best (award-winners) are run by English who take real pride in the taste, freshness, cooking...but never the interior design! The Chinese takeaways have just tried to muscle in by offering their food and fish and chips from the same little shop. Pump it out in quantity. I'm expecting to see one also offer chicken korma when I go back.

TheLaughingMan
Im still really really upset the op suggested cafe fish. lol I hate that place with a passion and tell everyone to avoid it. With so much GOOD seafood in Thailand how can anyone want to eat at cafe fish and get a terrible copy of western style fish joints. Its disgusting food and over priced to boot.
