Hi,

Can anyone help with some information?

Our daughter was born in Australia 10 weeks ago. My wife is traveling back to Thailand with our son (born in Thailand Thai and Australian passport) and daughter for about 6 weeks.

We have just received daughters Australian passport today. I'm not sure if we can get her thai birth cert and passport while she is in Thailand or we need to get it before she goes. Can we get her on families house book and get the cert and passport there or does it need to be done through the embassy here in Australia?

If it need to be done here in Australia I do not think we have time before they leave for Thailand. Will she just receive the 30 day no visa stamp and have to do a visa run in order to stay there for 6 weeks?

Any help much appreciated. I am trying to find out as much as I can online now but still not sure.

Thanks

Russ

Your daugther can only get a Thai birth certificate from the Thai embassy in Australia, as she was born outside of Thailand. At the same time you can apply for a Thai passport for her. process takes about 3 weeks I believe, including getting a passport.

Entering on the Australian passport means she will get a 30 day visa exempt entry. There is no need to do a visa run just for her, as children under 15 are exempt from overstay fines. Thai immigraiton regularly will advice people in cases like yours to just let the child have an overstay, as a border run is too much hussle.

Ok. They are off to Thailand next Sunday so that puts that out. When I looked at the form for Thai birth cert it needed original passports so we can not send those off either.

If there is no problem with over staying that seems like the best option at this stage. We can always get the birth cert and passport a a latter date.

Thanks for quick reply.

The problem could be getting on the aircraft as without Thai passport should have a visa for a stay longer than 30 days. Expect airline will be reasonable and allow; especially as it appears round trip ticket will be used, but I would check-in with extra time just in case a last minute ticket purchase required.
