Farang Ladies In Thailand

Featured Replies

Hey Girls,

I lived in Thailand for 5 years and it certainly had its ups and downs but definitely a wonderful experience and I would do it over again in a second. I began documenting all my experiences and some of the crazy shenanigans that went on and it's now a published book. "The Gift & the Curse" by Sarah Shivnan is written from the perspective of a British woman and now available on Amazon. For more details go to www.sarahshivnan.com. For anyone who lives in Thailand or wishes to go or travel there - hope you enjoy the fun stories! :)

I checked out the book on amazon and browsed through your website. Its actually quite a coincidence that prior to seeing this post I was researching about becoming a personal trainer here in Thailand. I am currently teaching English but am very interested in entering this line of work. My degree is in Kinesiology and those are the fields that are applicable to my degree.

Would you mind maybe telling me how yo u got involved in personal training here in Bangkok and what certifications you needed?

Thank you, and your book looks great.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your reply. Yes I was 22 when I first went to Thailand and having done a sport and nutrition degree at uni in UK first I was itching to get back into the field (I also taught ESL for 3 years first). Unfortunately a lot of gyms and clubs in Bangkok dont take on foreigners - 1, too expensive for work permits etc and 2, if they do then they pay a low local salary. Having said that though theres a huge expat market out there to do freelance which is what i did (i did home personal training which you can charge about 1000 baht per session). There are quite a lot of freelance trainers already in Bangkok but theres certainly enough clients to go around especially if you are good at what you do - word spreads fast! If you need a specific PT qualification theres a course offered in English conducted by a a Canadian lady at a place called Fittai which is near ploenchit station and you can get an ACE qualification, she has also been in Bangkok for years and can offer you some useful career advice and might be able to put you in touch with hotel gyms that might be willing to pay for foreign trainers. Other than that, if you spread your PT fliers and business cards around the condos on Sukhumvit and Silom, Im sure you'll get clients that way!

Good Luck :-)
Sarah

I checked out the book on amazon and browsed through your website.
