Changing Jobs, Have To Cancel Visa And Wp, Then Re-apply?!

Featured Replies

I'm changing jobs at the end of July and have been informed by my new employer that even though I have a non-imm visa and work permit, I'll have to re-apply for a non-imm visa (type 'B'), then apply for a new work permit through this new visa. A little frustrating because I'm currently stamped in until next April, anyway, I'm not here to complain, here's my question: Do I have to leave Thailand to get a new non-imm 'B' visa or can I have it all processed here seeing as I already have a non-imm visa?

I currently have a type 'o' based on marriage, no need for 90 day stamp. Many thanks in advance...

Don't worry. Only when you are on an extension of stay based on employement would you need to leave the country or get a 7 day extension. You are here on an extension of stay based on marriage. Your permission to stay is not affected if you lose your job. Only your work permit will be canceld and you need to get a work permit to work for the new company. (The extension says marriage, not employment right?. You know by looking in your passport or if you had your wife interviewed).

If you have a Non Immigrant O visa, then you will not lose it due to the job situation. The WP will be cancelled but you can apply for another one.

You can have a Non Immigrant O for work, you do not need to have a Non Imm B....

Thank you both so much for your super fast replies! Good news it would seem, I'll get back to my new employer with this info and hopefully it'll save me a trip abroad. Thanks again.
