I am out of pages in my Bank of Bangkok bank book. My account is in Chiang Mai but I don't live anywhere near there anymore. I live in Southern Thailand. Can I get a new book or more pages at any Bank of Bangkok bank or do I have go back to bank that holds the account?

Go to any Bank of Bangkok branch. Take your passport along with your bank book. Should be no problem. They will issue you with a new book.

that all depends on how much is in your balance....

if you are like most of us.... pretty much broke most of the time....

the road to asking for any favor is pretty much long and uphill.... :D

however, if you are like my neighbors who always maintain a 9 digit savings with the bank....

you probably won't have to lift your finger....

just as soon as you walk thru the door, the manager will usher you into his office and grant whatever you wish, whenever you wish....

yes, for most of us.... we just stand in line and enjoy those pretty cashiers servicing everyone....

and when it comes our turn.... we can tell what our transaction will be.... and if the comp is not down.... you'll probably get your wishes and your new book or whatever....

yes, you do need your identical i.d. and paper with you to ascertain your important self.... to the satisfaction of that person.... :)

Thank you for the info. They normally ask me why I don't transfer my balance from Chiang Mai. And I don't want to tell them that no one has ever stolen from my account in CM so I leave it there.

Unless you have good reasons not to trust your local branch--I would move the account, otherwise every transaction that you make will incur a commission.

I don't know about Bangkok bank but SCB does not "move" accounts from one region to another. You must open a new account where you want and then transfer the money between the old account and the new one and then close the old account.

Yes I would open a new account in the new area as this makes less hassle to get things done.

You would need proper ID and the bankbook to get a new book made

Why would having a bank issue a new bank book be considered a "favor"?

Bangkok Bank normally lets you get a new book only in the Branch where your account was opened and is.

That is why the other person used the word "Favour"

I've had problems just trying to move my Bangkok Bank account just from one section of Bangkok to another Bangkok Bank branch that was also in Bangkok. Good luck.

But if you go into the closest branch of Bangkok Bank, and tell them that you have moved and need to transfer your account they may be willing to do it. Be patient, explain carefully, and don't get angry with them. In my experience it helps to make it very clear that you intend to transfer the funds to your new account in THEIR BRANCH. It also helps if the amount is substancial.

Otherwise you have to go back to your original branch to get a new book....which probably isn't much use to you now.

Odd... My Bangkok Bank Account is somewhere in Bangkok, opened the account while on holiday here years ago, in the 6+ years I have lived here I have never been back to that Branch.....

I always get my new book at one of the Branches in a Supermarket, simple old passbook + some form of i.d. I always use my Thai drivers license, did it in the Branch at Big C last Thursday..... This must be at least passbook 14, never been questioned, and until this post had no idea this was a "Favour"

I notice that prior to about 1999 or so books were imprinted with home bank account number in bold print so likely had to be obtained from the branch. Since about 2000 it is just typed onto the passbook so that may have been the turning point to allow issue at any location.

Walked into branch of Bangkok Bank in Lotus 300 KM from my branch in CM. Gave the lady my passport and old bank book and told her I was out of pages. My me ka dot cup. She issued me a new book in about 2 minutes and gave me a flyer asking me to open an interest bearing account there.

That's good info as I am sometimes far from my "home" branch. I was, however, able to have a Bangkok Bank account in Bangkok and another in Chiang Rai, both with internet banking which helped as I am normally in one of those cities.
