American Arrested On Child Sex Charges In Chiang Mai

It's rather amazing to me that the Thai Visa readership would engage in a "rush to judgement" of sorts. That is, a concerted effort to find a Thai guilty in all this. Maybe it's the mother for pimping out her daughter. Maybe it's the police for not being more thorough. Or the Thai press for possibly accusing an innocent man. For Christ's sake, the freakin pervert was with a 10 yr old! The other crap is just noise. If the mother, for example, was in fact pimping her daughter (evil if true), she wouldn't be able to do it if there wasn't a ready and willing customer. I tend to believe the suspect is guilty rather than not. I know he's yet to be convicted, but I'm certainly not going to defend this guy because of the old "innocent until proven guilty" business. And you bleeding hearts out there can just stuff it.

And it's rather amazing to me that in this day and age someone is actually prepared to say that a person can be guilty of something, despite it not having been proved, that's beyond sad.

Berkshire>> Allegedly. It hasn't been proven that he did anything wrong with the 10 year old. Yet. So therefor things around isn't just 'noise', it is parts of the overall picture of the event. A mom that allegedly pimped out her daughter is surely a part of that picture and shouldn't be forgotten.

The mother pimping out her daughter wasn't even in the article. Some guy on this forum alleged that he heard that! Real investigative journalism. And everyone here seems to take THAT as fact. No matter. I'm sure you know that 99% of guys in prison claim they're innocent. Well, they're certainly guilty of something.

very mysterious story. therefore difficult to argue. but I think its not true.

you leave your daughter alone with adult male?

in thai lot people who think: o! farang have lot money! i will be think who possible take its money, forgeting about face

The only question remains - who lost his face? girl or girl's mother?

more tourists come to Thailand, the Thais create more problems, because the Thai people already know: Why work if you can trick a foreigner?

Thailand is sometimes similar to Vietnam, where being deceived at every turn when they see that you are a foreigner

but if its true - I think its man need cut eggs

Do you think Joran Van der Sloot is guilty? Wait a minute, we're not allowed to express an opinion on Thai Visa! Please. My opinion is certainly not going to convict him. People give their opinions on TV all the time, so give me a freakin break. I know how the justice system works.

I have just come back from Australia where I heard on the news that a woman is waiting to be sentenced for having sex with her 9 year old son. She posted pictures on the internet.

This freak of a woman / mother is guilty.

This man in Chiang Mai, guilty ? Only time will tell, and this being Thailand maybe not !

I am 53, my Thai G.F. is 29. She can pass for 18. We have never had any accusations made against us, but I see disgusted expressions from Farrang women ( their thoughts are all over their face - I am guilty in their minds) We did leave a a cafe in Chiang Mai at Xmas because my GF did not like the way an older Thai man was looking at her as if she was dirt on his shoes.

But, hey it is OK for the likes of Joan Collins and Liz Taylor to have toy boys, Michael Douglas, Cary Grant, Tony Curtis Rod Stewart Mick Jagger et all to have young glam wives....

This world is a sad bigotted xenophobic double standard awful place indeed.........

AND WE ARE ALL FORGETTING SOMEONE HERE......THE VICTIM !!!!

SHE IS 10 YEARS OLD....What medical / mental health system is there in place in Thailand to help this child get through this trauma ???????

According to my wife; Thai TV news said the girls mother took her (the girl) to the farang's room. It's a money thing apparently.

Again, this is according to the news on channel 3.

It's a sad sign of the times in Chiangmai that mothers are touting their young children round town of a night time, especially round the moat near Thapae Gate. A very sad indictmemt of our times.

Not just in Chiang Mai

A farang teacher I met in Khon Kaen told me that a restaurant owner tried to sell him her 15 year old daughter for sex. But he recognised the girl as one of his own students

This is Thailand and most Thais will do anything for money that is why Thai culture is a joke everything and everyone has its price

Thais love money and gold ABOVE their own children.

BUT of course there are many exceptions I have met many good Thais here from all levels of society

Thai people do not understand principles because that is something that cannot be bought .

lawyer will not be able to see any evidence the prosecution has against him until the day of the trial. The prosecution is not forced to show until day of trial.

This certainly makes things hard, how are you suposed to present a case?

I do have a feeling this guy is innocent ......theres obviously more to the story.

We dont know the true facts............was it his ex wife making these allegations...........was he a english tutor as one person mentioned?

The guesthouse could be his for all we know..........if it is he even could be a regular thaivisa poster.......who knows.......but what i do know is its about to tell the public the evidence.

Why is it that we never near of Thai men being arrested for the same offense? Are their no Thai sex offenders in Thailand? It seems all the Thais love to do is parade foreigners in front of the media while cloaking their own sad societal problems.

Sadly I have to admit that Canada also allows volunteer police to assist them. They are not allowed to carry firearms and play more of a security assist type of role. These people tend to be individuals that have been rejected by the force and/ or are trying to get more community based hours for their next application to the force.

There are Special Constables (volunteers) in the UK police,

but I doubt they are foreigners................

If he did do this at 72 yrs of age he must have done this god knows how many times before ... in cases like this they should check with his home country to see if he has done this before and use this evidence in court against him.

Agree - repeat offenders are usually at arms length from prosecution but have usually more than one victim. I would only hope exposure of this guy will lead to further convictions. Well done by the Police.

Good question , I'm sure that the thai prisons are filled up with sex offenders but the media dont like to talk about it....

This has got to win "FUNNIEST POST OF THE DAY"!

First, decry 'rush to judgment', and then, ENGAGE IN IT!

Seriously, there's a lot of disordered thinking in this thread...

This is one I don't buy. I mean I don't believe. But then a thought like that wouldn't occur to me. Shoot, at 62 sexual thoughts have been largely absent from my brain for many years, and when I did have them, they didn't include children. But I've known a few, always bragging about their sexual exploits and wide ranging appetite. Indeed, I used to work for a school district, five years attending mandatory meetings at admin where I got to listen to such things, including bragging about forcing preachers to watch their favorite pornography - developed for use in K12 schools, so it was said. Hmmm... sure glad I don't work there anymore. Let them partly until they meet the Lord in the end. Then they'll have a different kind of party.

Please be careful about assuming the worst things about male foreigners when you see them with Thai youngsters. Many of us are in legit relationships with Thai adults and are related to the Thai families, including of course actual Dads.

Yeah, mate got punched in the face by an American guy while walking down the street in Sukhumvit hand in hand with a 10 year old girl, it was his daughter. Also, I don't go anywhere with my 23 year old step-son unless the wife is with me. Get funny looks all the time.

is there any other country in the world that does this? I know of none.............

The Special Constables in the UK have this requirement of the nationality of recruits:

You must be a British citizen, an EC/EEA national or a Commonwealth citizen or foreign national with no restrictions on your stay in the United Kingdom.

Therefore, in UK at least, it is perfectly possible to be a police volunteer (paid) and not be either a UK Subject or an EU citizen. :)

Doesn't the police have a doctor do some type of "examination" surely if she is only 10 years old repeated sexual abuse would be evident. This would go a long way to proving that at least "something" was going on or not.

Why did the girl wait till after multiple events before complaining? Why not the first time? Thai authorities always seem to have overwhelming evidence. We are either not getting all the facts or something just isn't right about this story.

Markaew, there are any number of reasons why a child of this age would not have spoken up, either the first or the fifth or the tenth time. Children in abuse situations are themselves very confused and uncertain of what to do, often not even understanding why they feel bad about what they're being subjected to, even blaming themselves. Comments like yours would help perpetuate the idea that children are able to or may be in a position to prevent this type of abuse if they're brave enough...remember, the adults involved are most likely also manipulating/threatening the child already. Whether you meant it or not, you have actually laid blame for a 10 year old child's sexual abuse on her family and herself... that is a worrying point of view.

Watch Thai TV more often. There was a pederast being paraded on one of the News Channels. The reaction of the thais I was sitting with was of shock. If you want to understand thais and thailand watch their 5 TV channels, mind numbing, uneducational, violence soap opera crap controlled by the army or government. Thais are still at the stage of beleiving what they see on TV without question.

Yeah, your right I'm tired of those europeans coming over here and embarassing all of us from the west. ROFL. Dude there have been sickos from nearly every major country accused of or convicted of sexual crimes in the last year or two. This is not a case of sickos from one country coming over here. Unless you are from, lets say "Iceland". I'm sure you can find someone from your country that has shamed and disgraced all of the foreigners here in Thailand.

I was piqued by this story. I read it as: "adult son of Texas vaudeville mentalist (read: psychic tricks, good at the poker table) Wilbert Willis Holley nabbed for sex with Thai children."

I'll be interested in how this case plays out: I like to watch and see what political ties Ol' Texas Boys maintain, when they're so far from home...

They are. Pick up a Thai newspaper, watch channels 3 or 7. It so happens with this being foreigner-related, it makes more headlines among the foreign community.

There was a bit more in the Thairath.

The accused is a former American G.I. on a pension, who has been in Thailand since 2006.

He had rented a room at the guesthouse in Loi Khraw rd in Chiang Mai for about 2 months before the arrest. Members of the public became suspicious and reported him to the police after several young girls were seen go to his room, sometimes brought by an adult on a motorcycle.

He denies anything happened, saying he just gave the girl and her parent(s) money.

Apparently 3 of her female classmates were also involved.

The mother is also to be arrested for procurement.

I do see them in the Thai press from time to time. I guess they just don't make it into the BKK Post, Nation etc.

American man arrested for paedophilia

gallery_327_1086_4790.jpg

CHIANG MAI (TNA) -- An American man was arrested and alleged to have committed paedophilia, or having engaged in sex, with an underage child in this northern Thai province, according to provincial tourist police.

Police found evidence that the man identified as Wilbert Willis Holley, 72, had sexually abused a ten-year-old female student at a local school in Chiang Mai's provincial seat.

The girl told officials that she had been sexually molested several times by Mr Holley at a local guesthouse.

The suspect however denied the charge but the investigators are confidence that they have strong evidence to take legal action against him.

Police brought Mr Holley to search his residence in order to find whether or not there was further evidence for human trafficking or any other offences. (TNA)

OK I have read where there are rules to abide by if we answer to this subject in this forum so I will say it right now, with this _sshole I can not keep from slandering him or mocking his actions, without really getting pissed of that there are people like this in the world and they seem to congregate to Thailand for the easy pickings in kids. Also it seems to be all about money, the mother taking her little kid to his room, I'm sorry she is just as guilty as he is. I will not write anymore on this subject and these crees, if I do then the moderator will surly close me down, and ban me from this site for life.

Unfortunately Thailand is not the only country in the world where sex tourism involvng children is common practice. Cambodia, India, Brazil, Mexico, Tunisia, Morocco and Cameroon have been identified as leading hotspots of child sexual exploitation - driven by the widespread poverty in these countries.

According to a report on wikipedia ( Child sex tourism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ) "Brazil is considered to have the worst child sex trafficking record after Thailand."
