Authorities Inspect Petrol Stations to Prevent Overpricing

The Central Bureau of Weights and Measures has teamed up with the Internal Trade Department in the northeastern province of Surin to inspect gas stations, to prevent overpricing and unauthorised operation in light of rising retail gas prices.

The head of the Central Bureau of Weights and Measures, Witsanu Wetyantarat, revealed that the bureau has fined three oil stations in Surin's Muang, Nang Rong, and Lamplaimat districts, 10,000 baht each, for operating without license from the Central Bureau of Weights and Measures and the Internal Trade Department.

Concerning overpricing, which is subject to a 20,000 baht fine or a six-month jail term, they said no wrongdoers have been found.

This is an effort to prevent petrol stations from cheating the public as gas prices go on the uptrend at this time.

Prachuab Khiri Khan biomass plant may face suspension

By The Nation

The Stop Global Warming Association and 38 villagers in Prachuab Khiri Khan today filed a petitiona at the Central Administrative Court against a biomass power plant in the province.

In the petition, they named defendants as Energy Minister, the Energy Regulatory Commission, Industry Minister, Industrial Works Department director-gneral, Prachuab Khiri Khan governor, Prachuab Khiri Khan industrial officer, and chiefs of Huay Yang and Sang Arun local administrative bodies. The eight defendants were charged of negligence in allowing PT Industry Rianchai Co Ltd's construction of the power plant in a community area.

The villagers claimed that they earlier filed petitions to government units but there has been no action. The power plant is constructed near a public water channel and causes noise and air pollution.

They asked for the suspension of the power plant, until the investor completes the process in compliance to the Constitution's Articles 66 and 67 (2) as well as the National Health Act BE2550. They also asked the Energy Minister and the Energy Regulatory Commission to put all biomass power plants under the Article 67 (2) requirement.

Those in Prachuab Khiri Khan are asked to turn Tambon Huay Yang and Tambon Saeng Arun to the National Environment Board, so that both areas can be designated as environment protection zones.
