Mods,

a few threads have turned it to slanging matches lately (er and historically), and I would liked to have quietly brought this to you guys' (and girls) attention; so a warning could be posted or the thread closed.

We know you can't be watching every thread, so it makes sense for us, the content providers, to be able to point out runaway threads to you. I gather we can PM you direct, or report a particualr user etc, but it is not always fair to blame a single party and risk getting them sin-binned.

In the Options at the bottom, could we not have a 'request this thread be closed' link that would PM Mods online with the relevent details (Thread Number, and why the request, etc)?

Just a thought.

Theres a button at the bottom that says "report" which I belive send a PM to the MOD/adim

RamdomChances is right, i get a few of them everyday. that is the best way to alert the moderator(s) for that forum.

Yeah, but that's to report a person, yes? Ir a post, not a whole thread. Seems a little unfair accusing a wayward thread on one person. :o

OK found a way to do it. Posted myself with a request to close the thread (in the thread), then reported from that post. Just the Buddhist in my, don't like to blame individuals :o

I thought that the Moderators were the ones who had control over content.

Surely if there is a thread that you do not like the content of, you stop reading it...... :D

There are special circumstance where if you were being personally insulted then you could request a moderators help. Otherwise to close a thread because an individual member doesn't like, it sounds like personalised censorship to me. :o

Just my 2 satangs worth...... :D

I think the mods do a pretty good job on this front. If anything I think they tend to pull the trigger a bit too quick some times. Some times threads can turn into some personal back and forth that may appear to be personal attacks. Most of the time this type of thing dies out after a couple of posts, or someone post to brings things back on topic, and sometimes the mods themselves post warnings to get things back on topic.

So maybe the mods let a thread or to go a little long in the direction of what appears to be personal attacks but I am sure if anyone that is directly involved in this type of thing appeals to the mods the thread will either be “cleaned” (the offending posts removed) or even closed.

Some examples are the current thread in regard to more farang teachers in Thailand. The mods have “cleaned” that thread a few times, and posted warning about content. The post earlier this month by a Thai lady looking to find some farang friends. Some of the Tv posters got a little carried away and the writer of the OP asked for it to be closed, and it was closed.

There is a fine line in a public forum such as this between censorship and maintaining a forum people feel comfortable speaking their mind.

Keep up the good work mods! :o

Derek,

Agreed, if one doesn't like the content of a post, then stop reading it.

However, sometimes, some people get into a loop of insulting each other and wrecking a thread that is of interest. A warning from the Mods can stop the bickering and return the thread to topic.

As I see this site as a community, I think its fair to try and stop two people going at it, because this sort of thing often leaks over into other threads based on the fact that these two people are now enermies. Nip it in the bud, and it calms down.

Agreed also that its the Mods that should do this, and they do do a good job at it. Howeverm they do not have eyes everywhere - and this is a 24hr site - Mods are on at different times (and cruise different forums) - what;s wrong with a little nudge in the right direction to stop something escalating?

Wolf,

I tend to see the bickering and insulting tend to come pretty much when a thread has run its course.

In the Thai Women thread that you asked to be closed, one of the pratagonists was Boo who is a Super Moderator. So I am sure if she had felt something was amiss she would have dealt with it then. I think the Mods do a great job! :D !

I also see this a community and if 2 people want a little banter then surely it is up to them. I believe that the majority of the people on this forum are decent, worldly and sensible folk. They don't need extra baby sitting...... :o

This is of course just my opinion and my opinion is no more or less valid than yours or anyone elses. :D
