US Congressmen Vote in Favor of Abhisit's Plan

The US House of Representatives on Thursday overwhelmingly voiced their strong support for a symbolic resolution proposed by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva that outlines plans to quell political unrest, create peace and implement democratic principles in Thailand.

The US House of Representatives has voted to support the proposed peace-making initiative devised by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

The plan has been widely referred to as the 'National Reconciliation Plan'.

The Congressmen voted 411-4 in favor of Abhisit's proposed plan which urges all sides in the Kingdom to make an effort to address their differences by means of the five-point reconciliation proposal issued earlier.

The two-month demonstration in Bangkok culminated in the outbreaks of political unrest that claimed 90 lives and injured nearly 1,900 people.

The standoff ended on May 19 in a series of arson attacks and riots.

Toyota Denies Relocating Fortuner Production from Thailand

Toyota has affirmed its confidence in Thailand in light of speculation it will be relocating production of its Fortuner utility vehicle by stating that it will be investing four billion baht in the country and manufacture 200,000 cars by the end of the year.

Toyota Motor Thailand President Kyoichi Tanada responded to reports in the media that the automaker will be moving production of its Fortuner utility vehicle out of the Kingdom to Indonesia.

Tanada denied the news, saying the only move the company will be making is relocating its Samrong facility to Baan Po.

Thailand has been made Toyota's base of production for both its Hilux Vigo and Fortuner lines since 2004. As of July 1, a total of one million trucks were exported from Thailand, generating up to 568 billion baht for the nation.

Tanada added that Toyota is studying the possibility of injecting four billion baht more investment into Thailand and increasing its yearly production to 200,000 vehicles.

Vice President Vichian Aimprasertsuk said Toyota's outlook of sales in the latter half of the year is bright with constant growth and a more stable political situation.

Vichian expects up to 650,000 vehicles of all brands to be sold in Thailand this year. Toyota has increased its sales target from 272,000 to 290,000.
