PM: Thaksin not barred from returning the country

BANGKOK (NNT) -- Self-exiled ex Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is not barred from returning to the country, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva says.

Speaking on Saturday upon Mr Thakin’s statement that he was to return to the Kingdom soon, the premier said Mr Thaksin was welcomed back to Thailand anytime but those living on the Thai territory needed to obey the Thai law.

The Prime Minister also said he had been more vigilant recently following reports of assassination attempts on national important figures.

The Prime Minister also confirmed transparency in the provision of daily allowance for those working in the Center for the Resolution of Emergency Situation (CRES), which became the target of attack by chairman of the House Committee on Military Affairs Somchai Petprasert, also Pheu Thai MP for Nakhon Ratchasima. However, the Prime Minister said probes would be conducted if irregularities were reported in the disbursement.

Mr Somchai on Friday called for an investigation into the disbursement worth over one billion THB and the wide gap of allowances being paid to troops and police deployed during the chaos.
