Fishing Charter/Tour In Phuket

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I will be visiting phuket for the first time in a couple of weeks with my girlfriend. We are from Oz. We are staying at Karon beach.

I'm a mad keen fisherman and really into sportfishing. It looks like phuket has a lot to offer in terms of that. I'd really love to go on a charter/tour while there and target some sportfish.

I'm not too interested in just handling for bottom fish or trolling up small tuna, I'd prefer to have a go at some more specialised fishing like jigging or popping for larger fish like giant trevally, sails, mackeral etc..

There seems to be a lot of boats around but can someone recommend a good charter service for a day trip that will focus on sportfishing?

Thanks.

Marty.

you won't catch much. Maybe a 1kg tuna.

Just buy a fishing trip for 1000 baht from a tourist shop and count on it being

more of a sight seeing tour and fun day out than a fishing trip.

The freshwater fishing in Bangkok is a very different story though and I highly recommend it for any

avid fisherman...

Hi, fishing around phuket is hit and miss, there are fish to be caught but it takes a combination of skill, timing and patience, the average day trip will be a sightseing trip with the slim chance to catch something. Drop by the fishing club in rawai for more info on where, with who and when to go.

There is fishing forum in the sports section of thaivisa, check it out.

Last time i went with my friends boat that i take care of we caught a few barracudas while trolling close to Buddha island. Trolling we have caught sailfish and Dorado, and snapper, GTs, rainbow runners, cobia etc bottom fishing.

There are sailfish, king mackeral, wahoo, marlin etc just the commecial fisherman get most of them. By far Australia has more to offer.

We should be going out in the next couple weeks if you want to join us let me know, the boat is a 6m center cons. built in Australia, great for the local waters. I Just got some gar fish (ballyhoo) from the local market for trolling and ballooning...
