Montenegro Asked To Review Thaksin's Residency

So is it a fact that anyone can:- Steel, Cheat, Lie and even be involved in ordering illegal killings be welcomed into these special countries, change my name and be granted a passport in the fake name and live well on on the stolen money with complete immunity from prosecution? (because when I change my name I am obviously not the other person)

If this is the case, a new for dummies book should be published called "How to be a crook change your name and get away with it for dummies" or can this book tittle be reduced?

Perhaps Thai Visa can give advice to people wishing to start a new career in "blackguardry" and how to get the right visas for countries that welcome criminals?

I'm fed up with people who can't be bothered to refer to people by proper names and refer to them by nicknames that they make up. I've given up and now will just delete such posts.

It should be somehow clarified how the TVF member should handle a statement by the Thai Vice foreign minister Panich Vikitsreth.

According to Panich, Thaksin holds a montenegin passport in the name of Takki Shinegra.

So in a discussion about a citizen of Montenegro, who was once a Thai PM, the use the name 'Takki' is not something that the TVF members make up, but a sign that they attentively follow the news.

THE NATION:

Thaksin's new name : Takki Shinegra

Runaway ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra has used new name in his passports issued by some African countries, Thai Vice foreign minister Panich Vikitsreth said Wednesday.

Thaksin's name in passports issued by Nicaragua, Uganda and Montenegro has been changed to "Takki Shinegra," he said.

The Thai government has revoked Thaksin's diplomatic passport issued during his premiership. He was believed to have an ordinary Thai passport. Some African countries have issued him a special passport to facilitate his travels and his visit to the countries.

Panich said Thaksin's new name may cause problem for Thailand's attempt to bring him back to face two-year jail term on charge of corruption.

"Problems can happen when we ask foreign countries to extradite him. We name him in our request as Thaksin Shinawatra but when those countries check his presence, they would not find him because he used different name," Panich said.

Nicaragua and Montenegro are not African countries, something what a Vice foreign minister should know, but this part probably have gone wrong during translation.

Isn't Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya also alleged to be a terrorist?

I think the case in permanently been delayed in court, until the 10 years time limit is up.

Here we go again, K. Rucharee, get your facts right before you type.

- No he hasn't been charged with terrorism

- Just two days ago the police and appropriate authoroties released a progress report in regard to the processing o charges against the PAD members. No it's not permanently delayed.

- Is the time limit 10 years? Are you sure of that? My lawyer doesn't agree with you.

Last week there was movement that hasnt yet come to conclusion on the PAD airport case. Last week or was it the week before there was also movement on another case and an even older one that hasnt come to conclusion yet and that was the attack on Prem's residence back in 2007, which was done by those people who are now red shirts before the airport invasion had ever taken place. I guess if things are going to be done in some order of when they happened rather than by when ready for court or by order of severity that case would come before the airport case and the recent uprising related cases. Court cases take a long time and there are outsatnding ones well beofre the airport invasion that undermine any argeument of permaentlty delyed airport case and poor arsonists suffering form double standards. Hey if we are lucky we may even get movment on the even older shipping Moo case and that would be interesting to say the least. Now if people on bioth sides would stop coming up with their half baked lie filled propagnada pieces we may get somewhere but that is probably too much to ask for.

As for Montengro. It is all about diplomacy and games

The countries that give Thaksin passports. refuge or whatever else arent interested in him or what he has done or is doing to Thailand.

All they want is his money.

As long as it flows they will be his friend.

But as soon as it stops they wont want to know him.

As a person he means nothing to them only as an ATM.

And all for the low, low price of:

Montenegro will offer its citizenship to wealthy businessmen who invest more than €500,000

Special this week. Buy 1, Get 1 Free for your child-like adult son.

For someone with 400 billion baht, a 1/2 million euro is but a small tip (including VAT) in order to secure safe haven from a potential 30 year prison sentence.

That is a no-brainer. Would these countries give a passport to you or would you just mean nothing to them?

Oh dear. Out of the frying pan into the fire. What odds you reckon that Thailand has, is or will continue to try to get Thaksin put onto an Interpol list?

I don't think anyone will want to risk Interpol refusing to put him on the list because they deem the charges "politically motivated". In fact, if that happens wouldn't it be a case that it could help Thaksin try to get asylum in a lot more countries around the world?

Kasit risks having a lot of egg on his face if he screws this one up.

The man is practically a walking omelet already.

A bit more egg won't make any difference at all, I assure you.

Nicely put.

All we need now is for the Montenegran foreign minister to state that he wrote no such thing in his letters, and the scramble will be complete.

I think the reason for judicial delays in this country are caused by corrupt (all or most) officials waiting for a bigger pay off, when the magic figure is reached the case melts away as incriminating evidence is conveniently lost.

Foreign Minister Silent About Extraditing Thaksin from Montenegro

The Montenegrin government has reported that Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya has not requested that former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra be extradited.

However, the foreign minister has indicated that the Thai government continues to work with the International Criminal Police Organization in apprehending the fugitive ex-premier.

A Canadian press agency reported that Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya has not made a request for the extradition of former Prime Thaksin Shinawatra during his visit to the Southeastern European country.

Thaksin is wanted by Thai authorities for allegedly masterminding a number of terrorist activities including the political unrest last May.

However, the Montenegrin government has granted citizenship to Thaksin, claiming that the former prime minister has promised to invest in the country.

Also, according to Montenegrin laws, any extradition of a Montenegrin citizen to another country is prohibited.

Kasit declined to disclose details of the issue to reporters, saying only that Thaksin is wanted for many crimes and the Thai officials are working with the International Criminal Police Organization, or Interpol, to apprehend him.

Kasit also claimed that according to some Montenegrin officials, Thaksin has been using his Montenegrin citizenship to conduct some unethical activities.

At any rate, the Montenegrin foreign minister has reaffirmed that the relationship between the two countries will not be affected by the Thaksin issue.

Can't wait the Interpol will finally get Thaksin. Any bets when it will happen?

And what could that unethical activities be that the Montenegrin citizen has committed (according to some Montenegrin officials, as Kasit claims).

Does somebody believe Kasit at all?

Wow, that ought to put a nail in Montenegro's attempt to become any closer to Europe...

Why?

Because EU is not a safe haven for criminals.

Is Montenegro the only country in the EU that doesn't extradite their citizen?

FYI: No extradition doesn't mean that criminals don't have to face justice.

Montenegrin citizen accused of a crime in a foreign country will have face the court in Montenegro and if found guilty get their penalty in Montenegro. I don't see where the EU should have a problem with this.

look at this example:

New York murderer sentenced to 12 years in Montenegrin jail

Thaksin has a history and vast experience in unethical activities, so the possibilities are probably rather large.

At EU's request, Montenegro suspends its offer of citizenship for wealthy foreign businessmen

Montenegro, responding to a request from the European Union, has suspended its plan to grant citizenship to wealthy businessmen who invest in the country, an official said Monday. Foreign Ministry official Zeljko Stamatovic said the government had not abandoned the "economic citizenship" program, but that it would be "harmonized" with EU regulations. Montenegro, an Adriatic country of over 600,000 people, gained independence from Serbia in 2006 and is now seeking to join the 27-nation EU. "As a responsible country which is seeking to become an EU member, we have accepted suggestions from Brussels and suspended the process of economic citizenship," Stamatovic said.

Montenegro had said previously that anyone who invested more than €500,000 ($704,200) in the republic could apply for citizenship. Critics argued that the plan would attract shady tycoons, despite government assurances that only respectable businessmen would be considered, and the plan would be carried out in consultation with international advisers. Montenegro experienced a surge in foreign investment — mostly from Russia — immediately after independence, but this has recently slowed due to the global economic crisis.

The country has already granted citizenship to former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who fled corruption charges at home and has promised to invest in Montenegrin tourism.
